This study analyzes various types of internships and co-op programs offered by universities which are accredited by the American Council of Construction Education ACCE. Practical training requirements for Bachelor of Science BS Construction students and construction companies needs are also assessed. Responses to a questionnaire survey which was administered to program directors of ACCE accredited programs construction firms and construction students provide information about existing types of internship and co-op programs. Student perspective and preferences sought through an internship or co-op position in the Construction Industry were also identified in the study. Construction companies seeking new graduates for employment consider …
A Model To Distribute Mark-Up Amongst Quotation Component Items: An Outline, David Cattell, Paul A. Bowen, Ammar P. Kaka
A Model To Distribute Mark-Up Amongst Quotation Component Items: An Outline, David Cattell, Paul A. Bowen, Ammar P. Kaka
David Cattell
The outline of a proposed new unbalanced bidding model is discussed. Background is provided as regards the role of item price loading, otherwise known as unbalanced bidding. Three types of loading are described, namely those of ‘front-end loading’, ‘back-end loading’ and ‘quantity error exploitation’ (otherwise known as ‘individual rate loading’). It is proposed that one single mathematical model could embrace all three of the above types and that the aspect of risk may be addressed partially by means of using the quadratic programming techniques employed within the field of Modern Portfolio Theory. MPT is a field pioneered by Markowitz in …

"[From the conclusion]: This discussion presents a linked series of hypotheses, each one suggested in its turn by evidence relating directly to C. Duilius (cos. 260), and contextualized by near-contemporary precedents wherever possible, or relevant-seeming analogues from slightly later periods. Taken together, these hypotheses support a plausible scenario in which the elogium on Duilius’ rostral column may be read not only as an account of a cunning and audacious commander whose pioneering efforts in naval warfare destroyed the myth of Carthaginian supremacy at sea, but also as an encomium on a generous benefactor to Rome’s citizenry. The inscription’s redactor has …

Paperless Construction: How Contractors Can Adjust To Change In The Industry, Tyler Hackman, James Lindgren, Kerri Rackow, Chris Snyder
Presidential Scholars Theses (1990 – 2006)
Paperless construction, in a nut shell, is the use of online or electronic programs for managing contracts, changes, drawings, submittals, RFis, correspondence, lab data, and inspection reports (Construction). The paperless construction movement is making its way through all types of construction, including residential, commercial, and heavy highway. It affects the whole project, from pre-bid, to project management, to closeout, and as the industry constantly becomes more paperless, contractors are forced to make changes in their processes to keep up with the trend. Peters Construction Corporation in Waterloo, Iowa, is an example a company committed to keeping on the leading edge. …
