The preservation of heritage buildings in the US forms an integral part of the property market. Market forces and government regulations in the form of preservation law, standards for rehabilitation and the revenue code dictate the success or failure of renovating historic buildings. At all levels of governments (federal, state and local) there has been a growing reluctance in recent years to increase regulatory burdens and fiscal constraints on …
Meridian Hill Park: The Making Of An American Neoclassical Landscape, Elizabeth Brabec
Meridian Hill Park: The Making Of An American Neoclassical Landscape, Elizabeth Brabec
Landscape Architecture & Regional Planning Faculty Publication Series
The neoclassical design was the dominant design movement in landscape architecture at the turn of the last century, dictating the form and design of public parks for most of the first half of the twentieth century. Meridian Hill Park, located just north of the White ouse in Washington, DC, is considered the most ambitious neoclassical park ever conceived in the United States. The paper provides an overview of the design development of the park, illustrating how classical design precedents were used to create a contemporary neo-classical park.

Heritage Preservation Projects
Arabia Mountain is a large formation of exposed granite located in the southeast section of DeKalb County, Georgia. Historic context, archaeological information, and a survey of the architecture in the area has been compiled by the Spring 2002 Case Studies in Historic Preservation class to develop a Multiple Property Documentation Form. The purpose of this form is to be submitted for National Register nomination on both the local and national levels. The Arabia Mountain Area contains several geological features unique to the area including granite outcroppings, forests, lakes, wetlands, and creeks.
