Building For The Future: The Aspirational Architecture Of Edith Cowan University, Glenys Haalebos Jan 2005

Building For The Future: The Aspirational Architecture Of Edith Cowan University, Glenys Haalebos

Research outputs pre 2011

When ECU decided to re-locate its headquarters, it not only made history- becoming the first modern university in Australia to take such a bold move - it also began a process of immense symbolic and strategic importance for its future. It was strategic because these beautiful and functional structures have significantly enhanced our reputation as a provider of quality teaching and research and established us as a committed, energetic partner with our surrounding communities.

Museums are one of the primary cultural icons of the city. As such, they embody ideas not only about history, art, or nature, but also about place. A great museum develops from ideas about its place. Our proposal for Guangdong Museum (New) is "The Box of Changes." It evolves from two ideas about place: place as real artifact-the site- and place as a cultural idea-the I Ching.

The Tactile And Sensual: Redeveloping An Abandoned Granite Quarry As Hospice Facilities For The Elderly, Linnaea Stuart

Architecture Thesis Prep

The phenomenological aspect of 'being' both physically as well as mentally allows for this simultaneity to occur.

As one part of mans preparation of death, architecture has the potential to invoke an acute awareness of being (the understanding that one is still an individual with importance ans place in …

As illustration of both but especially the former relationship, we could examine the role of architecture in the creation of contemporary Las Vegas, a city that has experienced almost unparalleled growth in residents (1.4 mil.) and tourists (35 mil.annually) since 1990.
