Student paper titled “The Stewart Farm” in which Debbie Cavin and Sharman Mulls provide an expansive look at the homestead of Garrett Graham Stewart, a native of Warren County, Kentucky. The log house, which was built by Stewart in 1850, was originally part of a 400-acre farmstead. Cavin and Mullins collected their historical data from Bill and Bell Muth, a couple who were in the process of renovating and restoring the Stewart home. The number of buildings seeking LEED certification has been growing steadily over the past few years. In this study, three academic buildings which were designed and built to LEED certification standards were targeted in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Their electricity consumption and cost effectiveness were examined and compared with predesigned LEED efficiency models of those three buildings. This research directly examined cost effectiveness of LEED buildings in terms of electricity usage. From the professionals’ perceptions, the current study infers the current status of lean-manufacturing implementation in the thermoplastic-manufacturing industry and identifies the best lean theories and tools for the industry. However, the results of the current study are not generalizable to the entire thermoplastic-manufacturing industry.

The German government is experiencing difficulties housing and assimilating Syrian refugees in its borders. Erecting temporary shelters on location is one way to deal with the current crises. This thesis attempts to use Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to determine the optimum combination of materials and construction methods to be used in the shelter’s walls in order to improve the living conditions of the refugees and to ensure that the cost is acceptable to the German government. Monroe County, Kentucky (1997 estimated population, 11, 223) is located in the south central portion of the state alongside the Kentucky-Tennessee border. It is part of what is known as the Pennyrile (Pennyroyal) region, an area named for the native medicinal plant, and situated between the Central Lowlands of the Midwest and Appalachian Plateau. Monroe County’s hilly topography is heavy with limestone and shale deposits, and the soil ranges from medium to low in fertility. Allen County, Kentucky, is located in the south central portion of the state along the Kentucky-Tennessee border. On that border, Allen County meets the Tennessee counties of Sumner and Macon.
