The paper presents a research on parameters of sustainable architecture identified in the vernacular architecture of Kosovo, specifically in the urban dwelling constructed during the 19 th century. Main principles of sustainable architecture in general were initially evaluated and elaborated in order to identify and compare to the study cases included in this research. Analyzes have shown characteristic architectural elements of this typologies such as: extended eaves, open end closed çardak (garret, balcony), window wooden shutters, natural building materials, vegetation and etcetera, to be part of the conscious design with sustainable approach.
