Every year, the Great Salt Lake (GSL) and its associated wetlands provide critical habitat for over 250 migratory bird species from both the Pacific and Central Flyways. The GSL borders the Wasatch Front, which is the fastest growing and most populous region in Utah. To support the ever-increasing working population, the government of Utah aspires to increase the robust economic growth of the region through economic incentives and development of infrastructure. Wildland fire is an important and complex issue, particularly in the fire-prone ecosystems of the Western United States. At the same time that the number of catastrophic wildland fires is increasing across the United States, more people are moving in to wildland areas growing the interface between urban and wildlands. Managing wildfire in the Western United States is becoming increasingly more complex and costly as growth and development continues to push the edge of municipalities into undeveloped wildlands. Communities in this wildland urban interface are exacerbating the problem of wildfire in the West.

The sagebrush grassland landscape has shaped aspects of southeastern Idaho culture and enhanced its rural economy. Sharptail grouse, sage grouse and mule deer hunting are deeply rooted in family traditions. Each fall thousands of residents head out into the field to hunt, camp and enjoy the autumn outdoors. Deer hunting and associated activities generate an estimated 240 million dollars annually, in the Idaho economy. The thesis proposed deals with the design of a Planned Unit Development on a site located in Cache Valley. Included in the study is research of existing PUDs, determining the aspects in which they are successful and those in which they are unsuccessful. Analysis of a site with respect to physical characteristics and aesthetic characteristics will be undertaken with previously compiled data.
