This report resulted from the work developed by an undergraduate class from the California State University San Luis Obispo from September 22, 2014 to December 5, 2014. Under a contract with the City of Wasco’s Planning Department, the CRP 341 Urban Design Studio III studio developed a vision and urban design concepts for the Highway 46 Corridor in Wasco.

This document expands upon the principles set forth in the County of San Luis Obispo’s Estero Plan (2009) in the context of public space and develops site-specific recommendations to support future implementation of public space plans for Cayucos, California. This plan includes an existing conditions analysis, general goals and principles, site-specific visions and actions, as well as supporting conceptual diagrams. The main purpose of this plan is to reflect the community’s desire to preserve, protect, and enhance the public spaces of Cayucos.

The City of Bell, a charter city of Los Angeles County, is a densely-developed community located approximately eight miles southeast of Downtown Los Angeles. The City is composed of two distinct districts; the original “center city” is the residential and commercial core of the City, while industrial uses are concentrated in the Cheli Industrial Area to the northeast. The two districts are connected by a narrow strip of land along the Los Angeles River and the I-710 Freeway. Bell is relatively small in area—2.81 square miles, or 1,798 acres. In the 2013 spring quarter, the City and Regional Planning Department at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo partnered with the City of Goleta to develop a vision plan for the Old Town area. The collaboration between the University and the City included two (2) community meetings and four (4) weekend engagement activities. This vision plan was created and written specifically for the residents of Old Town Goleta. The primary reason for its existence is to produce development and planning ideas for the City of Goleta.
