Archaeological Investigations At Eisenhower Park, Northern Bexar County, Texas, A. Joachim Mcgraw Jan 1986

Archaeological Investigations At Eisenhower Park, Northern Bexar County, Texas, A. Joachim Mcgraw

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State

During December 1985, a cultural resources assessment was made within the 350-acre property of Eisenhower Park in northern Bexar County, Texas. Systematic survey of the property and limited subsurface testing at four newly recorded and two previously recorded prehistoric sites were done. All sites are characterized by a deflated scatter of lithic debris. None of the sites examined are deemed potentially eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places or to be designated as a State Archeological Landmark.

An Archaeological Survey Of A Proposed Water Main In Val Verde County, Texas, Joseph H. Labadie Jan 1986

An Archaeological Survey Of A Proposed Water Main In Val Verde County, Texas, Joseph H. Labadie

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State

During September 11-13, 1985, the Center for Archaeological Research, The University of Texas at San Antonio, conducted an archaeological survey of a proposed water main pipeline for the Department of the Army, Albuquerque District, Corps of Engineers. The pedestrian survey identified one archaeological site (41 VV 810) that produced no temporally diagnostic artifacts. Construction of the water main will not adversely affect the site.

Test Excavations Of Site 41nl20 Nolan County, Texas, Jerry Henderson

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State

Site 41NL20 is located on the south terrace of Sweetwater Creek at County Road 216 in Nolan County, Texas. Archaeological testing, con-fined to the county road right-of-way and a temporary 50-ft. easement on the east side of the county road, was conducted by the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation (SDHPT) in 1983 and 1986 and produced a small quantity of chert debitage and a partially intact hearth. No prehistoric tools were recovered and no concentrations of debitage or activity areas were discerned. The main portion of the site appears to lie on private property east of the tested ...

Some of his work include Sherwood on Bellevue Avenue, Armesa Hall, and a marble tablet in Trinity Church dedicated to Alfred G. Vanderbilt.

Test Excavations At Site 41lk269 Live Oak County, Texas, Glenn T. Goode Jan 1986

Test Excavations At Site 41lk269 Live Oak County, Texas, Glenn T. Goode

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State

Archaeological site 41LK269 is a prehistoric open campsite located on a Pleistocene terrace remnant of the Nueces River near George West, Texas. The small portion of the site which remains within the right-of-way of US Highway 59 produced a meager sample of aboriginal materials. The cultural remains, devoid of diagnostic artifacts, consist of lithic artifacts and fire-cracked rock. The absence of diagnostic materials precludes an accurate assessment of the occupation time frame. The recovery indicates that that portion of the site which occurs within the highway right-of-way does not merit nomination to the National Register of Historic Places or designation ...

Archaeological Testing At Sunrise Canyon Subdivision (41bx441), Universal City, Texas, Kenneth M. Brown Jan 1986

Archaeological Testing At Sunrise Canyon Subdivision (41bx441), Universal City, Texas, Kenneth M. Brown

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State

From January 3-7, 1984, a field crew from the Center for Archaeological Research, The University of Texas at San Antonio, consisting of Kenneth Brown, Ralph Snavely, and Margaret Greco spent approximately 12 person-days testing archaeological deposits at Sunrise Canyon subdivision (Unit 2) in Universal City, Bexar County, for Sitterle & Companies, the developer.

No further field work is recommended at site 41 BX 441. While further excavation, at least in the vicinity of Test Pit 1, might augment the collection of artifacts from the site, the geologic setting indicates that the context of deposition would be much the same as a ...

An Archaeological Survey Of Converse City Park, Bexar County, Texas, Ralph Snavely Jan 1986

An Archaeological Survey Of Converse City Park, Bexar County, Texas, Ralph Snavely

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State

On March 3-4, 1986, the Center for Archaeological Research (CAR), The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), conducted a survey of approximately 25 acres, comprising the Converse City Park on the south edge of Converse in Bexar County, Texas. The survey was required to comply with federal regulations. One area within the development zone was found to have a light surface scatter of cultural materials. This lithic scatter was recorded and assigned a permanent state site designation (41BX698). An intensive search of the site area failed to produce any concentration of cultural materials other than the one area. No ...

Laredo, Texas: Gateway Community On The Texas Borderlands, Archaeological And Historical Investigations For The Laredo City Toll Plaza, William J. Folan, I. Waynne Cox, Anne A. Fox, Gilberto M. Hinojosa

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State

In July 1980, the Center for Archaeological Research, The University of Texas at San Antonio, conducted archaeological and historical investigations at sites designated as 41 WB 36,41 WB 37, and 41 WB 38, which are located in a residential district on the east side of the town of Laredo, Texas. These sites are represented by late historic foundations which were uncovered after a group of houses were razed to make way for a new toll bridge complex to facilitate international travel between the United States and the Republic of Mexico. A short history of Laredo and of the four ...

Archaeological Investigations At The United States Arsenal Site (41bx622), San Antonio, Texas, Anne A. Fox Jan 1986

Archaeological Investigations At The United States Arsenal Site (41bx622), San Antonio, Texas, Anne A. Fox

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State

Test excavations were carried out at two locations on the grounds of the old U.S. Arsenal in downtown San Antonio, Texas, in December 1983. Backhoe trenching at the north end of the site revealed no indication of the location of an acequia lateral suspected to run through the area. Test excavations at the south end of the stone stable building found no indication of the location of a stairway which is presumed to have led to a second story doorway in the wall of the building. Historical research resulted in production of a history of the Arsenal from the ...

Archaeological Studies At The Cps Butler Lignite Prospect, Bastrop And Lee Counties, Texas, 1983, Kenneth M. Brown Jan 1986

Archaeological Studies At The Cps Butler Lignite Prospect, Bastrop And Lee Counties, Texas, 1983, Kenneth M. Brown

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State

In May and June 1983, archaeologists from the Center for Archaeological Research, The University of Texas at San Antonio, performed a pedestrian survey intended to provide 100% coverage of 288 hectares of land in the CPS Butler lignite prospect. The survey area was divided into five separate tracts in Bastrop and Lee Counties; four of these tracts had been examined in an earlier reconnaissance-level survey, and the present survey was intended in large part to emphasize heavily vegetated areas not thoroughly covered by the earlier survey. Five sites were located; all had some prehistoric cultural debris, but two were chiefly ...

Archaeological Investigations At Morgan Chapel Cemetery (41bp200), A Historic Cemetery In Bastrop County, Texas, Anna J. Taylor, Anne A. Fox, I. Waynne Cox

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State

During August 1984, archaeologists from the Center for Archaeological Research (CAR), The University of Texas at San Antonio, and City Public Service (CPS) of San Antonio relocated the burials from Morgan Chapel Cemetery (41 BP 200), in Bastrop County, Texas. Twenty-one burials, of which 13 were unmarked, were located, exposed, recorded, and removed for reinterment in the nearby McDade and Ridgeway Cemeteries. The nature of the clay subsoil at the site obscured grave outlines, which made detection of unmarked burials quite difficult. This situation resulted in a decision by CPS, following consultation with representatives of the Texas Historical Commission and ...
