Thermal Energy Assessment Of New Constructed Bio-Based Insulation Material Applied In Buildings, Abeer Fuad Othman Dar Saleh Nov 2020

Thermal Energy Assessment Of New Constructed Bio-Based Insulation Material Applied In Buildings, Abeer Fuad Othman Dar Saleh

Architectural Engineering Theses

The building sector is moving towards energy-efficient design "low energy consumption". The development of bio-based thermal insulation materials contributes strongly to this approach. The implantation of these materials in the new designed buildings will have an excellent impact in reducing the energy consumption and subsequently saving the non-renewable resources depletion and in decreasing the waste generation.

In this research, the energy performance of a new bio-insulation material prepared from rice will be evaluated. Focusing on its physical and thermal properties such as thermal conductivity and fire reaction evaluation. The developed insulation sample has been made by heating a fixed quantity …

Exploring Conscious And Unconscious Emotional Affordances Of Traditional Versus International Architectural Styles, Ala’ Faleh Ahmad Albdour Nov 2020

Exploring Conscious And Unconscious Emotional Affordances Of Traditional Versus International Architectural Styles, Ala’ Faleh Ahmad Albdour

Architectural Engineering Theses

This thesis is concerned with investigating the effect of contemporary architectural styles on the human emotion both conscious and unconscious. In particular, it looks at the traditional visual context versus the international visual context within the built environment. United Arab Emirates (UAE) is one of the countries that has applied little restrictions on the adoption of the architectural styles, the case that makes it an appropriate place to conduct this kind of studies. The main aim of this thesis is to investigate the emotional affordance of a number of participants when they observe a visual context of a ‘Brand Image’ …

Construction Waste Management Practices In Abu Dhabi; Investigation And Evaluation, Batoul Yousef Hittini Jun 2020

Construction Waste Management Practices In Abu Dhabi; Investigation And Evaluation, Batoul Yousef Hittini

Architectural Engineering Theses

In 2012, the Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi has reported that 6.9% of the total Green House Gases were emitted by the waste sector emitting 92% by solid waste disposal in the landfills. In 2016, about 4.55 million tons of waste was generated by the construction and demolition industry, representing 47% of the total non-hazardous waste produced. This increased by 62.92% compared to the amount in 2015. The Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi has set its goal towards waste management starting by first using a reduction approach. Estidama has mandated a diversion of 30% of construction generated waste by reusing …

Social Sustainability: The Assessment Of Neighbourhood Parks Live Ability In Sharjah City, Rana Helmy A. Elthabwabta Nov 2018

Social Sustainability: The Assessment Of Neighbourhood Parks Live Ability In Sharjah City, Rana Helmy A. Elthabwabta

Architectural Engineering Theses

This research aims to assess neighbourhood social sustainability and live ability by investigating the ways in which users perceive neighbourhood spatial design and context. The research applied the social sustainability model to assess and question neighbourhood park live ability in Sharjah City.

Following a qualitative case study approach, the research operationalized social sustainability principles through several tools: survey, field observations and mapping. The conducted analysis was based on a compilation of coded data from the survey consistent with the applied principles of social sustainability.

The research findings confirm variables related to neighbourhood parks spatial context design and people perception. Thus …

The Impact Of Building Form On Energy Consumption In New School Models Of Abu Dhabi, Meriem Rahmani Nov 2017

The Impact Of Building Form On Energy Consumption In New School Models Of Abu Dhabi, Meriem Rahmani

Architectural Engineering Theses

The high rates of energy consumption by schools are mainly caused by inappropriate designs of architectural forms and limited access to free energy resources that can be provided by natural lighting and ventilation. Optimizing the architectural form with regards to its geometry, aspect ratio, spatial height to depth proportion, form direction, spacing between building masses can help to improve connection to the outdoor environment including daylight, air and outdoor greenery. The optimized form can help not only to save energy but also to create educational environments that are more lively and cheerful; and hence improve students’ performance, health and attitude. …

Improving The Estidama Rating For New Adec Prototype Schools By Renewable Energy Integration Joud Abdalla Al Jumaa Al Dakheel, Joud Abdalla Al Jumaa Al Dakheel May 2017

Improving The Estidama Rating For New Adec Prototype Schools By Renewable Energy Integration Joud Abdalla Al Jumaa Al Dakheel, Joud Abdalla Al Jumaa Al Dakheel

Architectural Engineering Theses

The building sector in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has experienced a tremendous expansion in the last forty years due to population growth and economic development. Presently, the UAE has one of the world’s largest energy consumption per capita, with the building sector accounting for 70% of the consumed energy. In the last decade, the government intensified its efforts to implement stringent environmental regulations and schemes by mandating environmental policies and regulations. It introduced “Estidama”; the local sustainability framework, and the Pearl Building Rating System (PBRS) to promote the development of sustainable buildings. All governmental buildings must achieve …
