While traditional on-demand food delivery services help restaurants reach more customers and enable doorstep deliveries, they also come with drawbacks, such as high commission fees and limited control over the delivery process. White-label food delivery services have emerged as an alternative, ready-to-use platform for restaurants to arrange delivery for customer orders received through their applications or websites, without the constraints imposed by traditional on-demand food delivery platforms or the need to develop an in-house delivery operation. Although several studies have investigated consumer behavior when using traditional on-demand food delivery services, there is limited research on merchants’ behavior when adopting white-label …

'Akko Iii. The 1991–1998 Excavations: The Late Periods. Part I: The Hospitaller Compound, Eliezer Stern, Danny Syon
IAA Reports—Monograph Series of the Israel Antiquities Authority
‘Akko III: The Late Periods (two parts: IAA Reports 72–73) comprises the third in a series of volumes publishing the results of four excavations that took place in ‘Akko between 1991 and 1998. While these two volumes deal primarily with the Crusader period, they also present finds from the Early Islamic and Ottoman periods, both elusive chapters in the history and archaeology of ‘Akko. Akko III: The Late Periods, Part 1: the Hospitaller Compound (IAA Reports 72) comprises the final report of the 1991–1998 excavations in the Hospitaller Compound, the largest, longest and most complex of the four excavations. The …

Dense, dual phase (Hf,Mo,Ti,W,Zr)B2–(Hf,Mo,Ti,W,Zr)C ceramics were synthesized with varying contents of Mo and W. The final (Hf0.317Mo0.025Ti0.317W0.025Zr0.317)C–(Hf0.317Mo0.025Ti0.317W0.025Zr0.317)B2 was a nominally pure, dual phase ceramic, while compositions with higher amounts of Mo and W contained multiple phases. The final microstructures had submicron grains due to pinning effects. Vickers hardness values were up to 48.6 ± 2.2 GPa for an applied load of 0.49 N for the ceramic with optimized composition and densification. The solubility limits for Mo and …

Exotic woodboring insects, including some ambrosia beetles (Coleoptera: Curculionidae, Scolytinae, and Platypodidae), are threatening native forests worldwide. Longleaf pine (Pinus palustris Mill.) forest is an endangered habitat in the southeastern United States. One of the most important actions necessary for its conservation is prescribed fire, which maintains its savanna structure. However, prescribed fire is a forest disturbance, possibly creating new niches for colonization by exotic insects. The interaction between prescribed fire and exotic ambrosia species is understudied, especially in highly fire-dependent ecosystems. We carried out a two-year experiment in mixed longleaf pine forests in Alabama, USA. We compared ambrosia beetle …

BACKGROUND: GTPases of the Rab family are important orchestrators of membrane trafficking, and their dysregulation has been linked to a variety of neuropathologies. In 2017, we established a causal link between RAB11A variants and developmental and epileptic encephalopathy. In this study, we expand the phenotype of RAB11A-associated neurodevelopmental disorder and explore genotype-phenotype correlations.
METHODS: We assessed 16 patients with pathogenic or likely pathogenic RAB11A variants, generally de novo, heterozygous missense variants. One individual had a homozygous nonsense variant, although concomitant with a pathogenic LAMA2 variant, which made their respective contributions to the phenotype difficult to discriminate.
RESULTS: We reinforce the …

Magnesium (Mg) – based alloys are becoming attractive materials for medical applications as temporary bone implants for support of fracture healing, e.g. as a suture anchor. Due to their mechanical properties and biocompatibility, they may replace titanium or stainless-steel implants, commonly used in orthopedic field. Nevertheless, patient safety has to be assured by finding a long-term balance between metal degradation, osseointegration, bone ultrastructure adaptation and element distribution in organs. In order to determine the implant behavior and its influence on bone and tissues, we investigated two Mg alloys with gadolinium contents of 5 and 10 wt percent in comparison to …

Visual Causal Question And Answering With Knowledge Graph Link Prediction, Utkarshani Jaimini, Cory Henson, Amit Sheth
Publications
The ability to answer causal questions is important for any system that requires robust scene under- standing. In this demonstration, we develop a prototype system that leverages our causal link prediction framework, CausalLP. CausalLP framework uses a visual causal knowledge graph and associated knowledge graph embedding for two visual causal question and answering tasks- (i) causal explanation and (ii) causal prediction. In the live demonstration sessions, the participants will be invited to test the efficiency and effectiveness of the system for visual causal question and answering.

Causal Neuro-Symbolic Ai For Root Cause Analysis In Smart Manufacturing, Utkarshani Jaimini, Cory Henson, Amit Sheth
Publications
Root cause analysis is the process of investigating the cause of a failure and providing measures to prevent future failures. It is an active area of research due to the complexities in manufacturing production lines and the vast amount of data that requires manual inspection. We present a combined approach of causal neuro-symbolic AI for root cause analysis to identify failures in smart manufacturing production lines. We have used data from an industry-grade rocket assembly line and a simulation package to demonstrate the effectiveness and relevance of our approach.
Causal Knowledge Graph For Scene Understanding In Autonomous Driving, Utkarshani Jaimini, Cory Henson, Amit Sheth
Causal Knowledge Graph For Scene Understanding In Autonomous Driving, Utkarshani Jaimini, Cory Henson, Amit Sheth
Publications
The current approaches to autonomous driving focus on learning from observation or simulated data. These approaches are based on correlations rather than causation. For safety-critical applications, like autonomous driving, it’s important to represent causal dependencies among variables in addition to the domain knowledge expressed in a knowledge graph. This will allow for a better understanding of causation during scenarios that have not been observed, such as malfunctions or accidents. The causal knowledge graph, coupled with domain knowledge, demonstrates how autonomous driving scenes can be represented, learned, and explained using counterfactual and intervention reasoning to infer and understand the behavior of …

Ontology Design Metapattern For Relationtype Role Composition, Utkarshani Jaimini, Ruwan Wickramarachchi, Cory Henson, Amit Sheth
Publications
RelationType is a metapattern that specifies a property in a knowledge graph that directly links the head of a triple with the type of the tail. This metapattern is useful for knowledge graph link prediction tasks, specifically when one wants to predict the type of a linked entity rather than the entity instance itself. The RelationType metapattern serves as a template for future extensions of an ontology with more fine-grained domain information.

Efficient Multiplicative-To-Additive Function From Joye-Libert Cryptosystem And Its Application To Threshold Ecdsa, Haiyang Xue, Ho Man Au, Mengling Liu, Yin Kwan Chan, Handong Cui, Xiang Xie, Hon Tsz Yuen, Chengru Zhang
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Threshold ECDSA receives interest lately due to its widespread adoption in blockchain applications. A common building block of all leading constructions involves a secure conversion of multiplicative shares into additive ones, which is called the multiplicative-to-additive (MtA) function. MtA dominates the overall complexity of all existing threshold ECDSA constructions. Specifically, O(n2) invocations of MtA are required in the case of n active signers. Hence, improvement of MtA leads directly to significant improvements for all state-of-the-art threshold ECDSA schemes. In this paper, we design a novel MtA by revisiting the Joye-Libert (JL) cryptosystem. Specifically, we revisit JL encryption and propose a JL-based …

America's Next "Stop Model!": Model Deletion, Jevan Hutson, Ben Winters
Articles
This Essay explores the emergence of model deletion- the compelled destruction or dispossession of certain data, algorithms, models, and associated work products created or shaped by illegal means- as a remedy, right, and requirement for harmful applications of Al and ML systems. Part I examines model deletion's emergence as a consumer protection remedy and its conception as a positive right and regulatory requirement. Part II considers the constellation of federal and state actors, such as federal and state enforcement agencies and legislative bodies, who might seek model deletion to address particular Al and ML harms. Part III underscores the need …

GME Publications
Background
The tendons within the soleus muscle are commonly utilized to delineate location of injury for soleus muscle strains. Strains within the soleus frequently involve the myotendinous (MTJ) or myofascial (MFJ) junctions, although spatial relationship between these tendinous structures are not well understood. This study aimed to structurally identify the MTJs and MFJs within the soleus as a starting point to understanding the distribution of connective tissue for further anatomical classification.
Methods
Forty (n = 40) soleus muscles, representing left and right sides from twenty (n = 20) formalin-embalmed cadavers (average age 78 years old; 10 males, 10 females) were …
Algebraic Structures On Parallelizable Manifolds, Sergey Grigorian
Algebraic Structures On Parallelizable Manifolds, Sergey Grigorian
School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences Faculty Publications and Presentations
In this paper we explore algebraic and geometric structures that arise on parallelizable manifolds. Given a parallelizable manifold L , there exists a global trivialization of the tangent bundle, which defines a map ρ p : l ⟶ T p L for each point p ∈ L , where l is some vector space. This allows us to define a particular class of vector fields, known as fundamental vector fields, that correspond to each element of l . Furthermore, flows of these vector fields give rise to a product between elements of l and L , which in turn induces …

Elicited imitation tasks (EITs)—tasks that involve repetition of sentence-length stimuli—have received increased attention as tools for measuring general L2 proficiency and implicit knowledge of grammatical features (Kostromitina & Plonsky, 2022). The present study diverges from predecessors by exploring the use of an EIT for accounting for sociophonetic knowledge.
Complementing work on the acquisition of Peninsular phonetic/phonological variants (e.g., George, 2014), the present study investigates acquisition of /θ/ by 25 US learners of Spanish studying abroad in a 6-week immersion program in León, Spain. Learners completed an oral monologic role-play task and a 36-item Spanish EIT (Solon et al., 2019) modified …

L2 And Hl Student Perceptions Of Afro-Latinx Representation In Spanish Language Curriculum, Lillie Padilla, Rosti Vana
2024 Hispanic Linguistics Symposium
Afro-Latinx individuals often experience a lack of recognition within the United States, despite comprising a substantial portion of the population in Latin America, North America, and the Caribbean (García-Louis & Cortes, 2020; Pew Research Center, 2016). Moreover, in the educational curriculum, their portrayal mirrors the broader societal context, as current research reveals that Afro-Latinx individuals are frequently absent or misrepresented in Spanish language textbooks, thus impacting its users (authors, 2022; 2024). In this vein, the present study reechoes the voices of Afro-Latinx for recognition and visibility, emphasizing the urgent need for equitable representation in educational materials.
The study investigates L2 …

Preposition Stranding In Spanish Heritage Language As A Non-Local Language Variety., Rafael Jimenez Baralt, Fabian Reynoso
2024 Hispanic Linguistics Symposium
This study contributes to the ongoing debate on HS grammatical outcome due to cross-linguistic transfer by exploring preposition stranding (PS) between Spanish Heritage Speakers and immigrants in Texas. PS occurs when a preposition is stranded due to the extraction of its noun complement at the end of the sentence (Ross, 1986). Structurally, Spanish does not permit PS (Campos, 1991). However, Spanish Heritage speakers (HS) accept and produce ungrammatical cases of PS (Pascual y Cabo & Gómez, 2015; Phillips, 2018; Depiante & Thompson, 2013) due to cross-linguistic influence (Montrul & Polinsky, 2011; White, 2011). According to Pascual y Cabo (2015), PS …
