Hardship has almost always been a part of the exploration and settlement of any area, and the hardships endured by the settlers of the Iron Range were in many ways no different from those experienced in other areas of a like nature. It is not the intent of this writer to show that the people of the Iron Range suffered any more or any less than the pioneers in other areas; it is only an attempt to set down for posterity some factual evidence to show that we do owe a great amount of respect and admiration to the pioneers …

Northeast Folklore Volume 5: Twenty-One Folksongs From Prince Edward Island, Edward D. Ives
Northeast Folklore Monographs
From the introduction by Edward D. "Sandy" Ives: "The twenty-one songs printed in this little volume are a representative sample of the songs I collected on Prince Edward Island during the summers of 1957, 1958, and 1963. ... As a matter of fact, I wasn't even "collecting songs" in the usual sense of that term; I was very specifically looking for songs by Larry Gorman and for biographical. Information about him, and when L wasn't asking about Larry Gorman I was asking about Joe Scott. Thus the present collection is neither the result of my general acquaintance with the traditions …

The Cross In The Valley ; The History Of The Establishment Of The Catholic Church In The Northern San Joaquin Valley Of California Up To 1863, Robert Eugene Bonta
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
This thesis is the story of the development of the Catholic Church in San Joaquin County and the adjacent areas that were served by the pioneer clergymen of Stockton 1 s St. Mary's Church from approximately 1851 to 186). These first dozen years of Central California Catholicism cover the pastorates of Stockton's first four priests: Fathers Dominic Blaive, Cornelius Delahunty, Robert Maurice, and Joseph Gallagher. These dozen years mark the transition of Stockton from a hectic supply center for the Southern Mines to a stable community whose economy became, based upon the agricultural production of its surrounding rural areas. These …

Now trying to recover a short part of the past life of Oberlin, I have relied heavily upon The Oberlin Review for factual data and insight into the atmosphere of the times. By spot-checking the other town newspapers, The Oberlin Tribune and The Oberlin News with The Review, I concluded that the review is a reasonably reliable source.
To help construct the skeletal chronology of events I turned two other periodicals besides The Review. These included the Annual Reports of the President and Treasurer, The Oberlin College Alumni Magazine, and The Oberlin College Bulletin. These contained such valuable information as …

Brigham Young's Activities In St. George During The Later Years Of His Life, Dale Glen Wood
Theses and Dissertations
The early history of Utah is both varied and interesting and presents a rich field of study for the student of Western American History. The subject treated in this paper is a segment of the early Utah story. It is a study of the activities of the Mormon leader Brigham Young in the southwestern Utah community of St. George. Involved is a detailed study of the years between 1861, when St. George was settled, and 1877, when President Young made his last visit to the community.

Tyler, S. Roger, 1878-1963
According to the title page, the book is a collection of articles published in two newspapers: the Advertiser in Huntington, West Virginia, and the Gazette in Charleston. Those articles were “based on sermons prepared and delivered by Dr. Tyler over a period of sixty years in the ministry.”
