Making And Breaking Kings: Generational Kingship And The Masculinities Of The Last Plantagenet Kings Of England,1308–1399, Richard Merrell
Making And Breaking Kings: Generational Kingship And The Masculinities Of The Last Plantagenet Kings Of England,1308–1399, Richard Merrell
History Undergraduate Honors Theses
In this project, I apply ideas on hegemonic and chivalric masculinity to four generations of Plantagenet kings of England during the fourteenth century—Edward II, Edward III, Edward the Black Prince, Richard II. My aim is to decenter men from their default position at the normative gender. I specifically recontextualize kingship form the canonical frameworks of patriarchal power and privilege and reconfigure it in terms of new research on masculinity studies to understand how masculine identities interact with ideas on the generational component of kingship. This project has implications for other fields of study such as chivalry and medieval masculinity. I …

Muslim, Jewish, And Christian Women Living With Resilience Amidst Microaggressions And Macroaggressions In King County, Kristen R. Moss
Doctor of Ministry Doctoral Projects
This qualitative research project explores how Muslim, Jewish, and Christian women with intersecting identities (social locations) of race, gender, religion, ethnicity, national origin, indigenous heritage, social class, age, and ability live with amid micro and macroaggressions. Existing research on trauma and resilience and the theological frameworks that undergirded the project are presented. Additionally, hate crime statistics and a brief history of hate crime legislation are discussed to illustrate patterns and trends and to expose knowledge gaps caused by unreported and underreported hate crimes (Anti-Defamation League, 2018a, p. 1). Furthermore, this project illuminates the impact of non-criminal micro and macroaggressions—either intentional …
Radical Imaginings: Indigenous Futurisms And The Decolonizing Possibilities Of Contemporary Indigenous Fiction, Sena Crow
Undergraduate Project Awards
Sena Crow’s project analyzes three literary works by Indigenous authors to examine the ways science fiction and dystopian storytelling can further decolonization and center Indigenous futurity. Her research dives deep into the scholarly conversations and she regularly sought feedback and assistance throughout her project to ensure her work effectively communicated to a range of readers. Christina Roberts (English), her faculty member, comments “Sena’s project exemplifies the ways in which current academic projects can interrogate biases around what constitutes academic work, while also being attentive to the ways in which methodologies around research can influence cultural perceptions. In my mind, her …

Silenced: Women’S Voices And The European Court Of Human Rights (2019), Tiffany Carpenter
International Studies Undergraduate Honors Theses
This article examines the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) and its judgments associated with women’s rights in the areas of reproduction, religious, and refugee expression. As an international court, the ECtHR seeks to resolve disputes related to violations of human rights between an individual and a member state. Although the introduction of the court has been perceived as progressive for global human rights, the ECtHR’s recent judicial recommendationsindicate an absence of recognition or limited advocacy for women’s rights. In addition to analyzing how women’s reproduction, refugee, and religious expression rights have received inadequate support from the ECtHR, this article …
