A Call To Peace: How Third-Party Actors And Frameworks Impacted The Peace Processes Of Northern Ireland And Colombia, Esther K. Holm
A Call To Peace: How Third-Party Actors And Frameworks Impacted The Peace Processes Of Northern Ireland And Colombia, Esther K. Holm
Channels: Where Disciplines Meet
Northern Ireland and Colombia both serve as excellent case studies on how the end of the Cold War impacted peace processes. Both countries experienced conflicts that begun in the Cold War era and underwent peace processes in the post-Cold War era. As such, studying them reveals characteristics of post-Cold War peace processes. For example, both Northern Ireland and Colombia showcase the important role that third-party actors play in modern conflict mediation. Both countries benefited greatly from mediation conducted by international organization, other countries, and individuals. Furthermore, both countries demonstrate the importance of frameworks in any successful peace negotiation. This paper …

A Former Liar Armed With Truth And Aiming For Greatness, Jonathan Gallardo
Creative Writing Minor Portfolios
This portfolio is a collection of my favorite works of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry that I wrote during my final four semesters at Cedarville University. “Cicadas at Lorelei” has been accepted for publication in The Merrimack Review, and “I Don’t Share My Grandfather’s Love for Mathematics” has been accepted for publication in *82 Review. This collection deals with my discovering the truth about Jonathan Gallardo and using that truth to create art. I present to you A Former Liar Armed with Truth and Aiming for Greatness.
Should English Spelling Be Reformed?: A History Of English Spelling, Rachel M. Schloneger
Should English Spelling Be Reformed?: A History Of English Spelling, Rachel M. Schloneger
The Research and Scholarship Symposium (2013-2019)
This paper explores the deep, and surprisingly informative, history of English spelling. It is a well-known fact that English spelling is confusing and troublesome for native speakers and non-native speakers alike. Its history is a winding road that ventures into various languages, picking up rules and idiosyncrasies along the way. The question facing linguists and other English language scholars is whether the system that is worth keeping or if reformative measures are needed. In its history, English has overcome invasions, subjugation, and conversion efforts to become what it is today. In the past many individuals have suggested reforms and have …
“Do Not Ask Me To Remain The Same”: Charles Darwin In Lizzie Bright And The Buckminster Boy, Rachael D. Tague
“Do Not Ask Me To Remain The Same”: Charles Darwin In Lizzie Bright And The Buckminster Boy, Rachael D. Tague
English Seminar Capstone Research Papers
In Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy, Gary D. Schmidt uses Darwin to allow his young protagonist to question the mindless acceptance of organized religion and to force his readers to engage difficult conversations, come to their own conclusions, and apply truth to their lives. Darwin provides answers and adventure, delivers Turner from his prison-like label, draws him closer to his father, his friends, and nature, while at the same time disconnecting him from the self-righteous town, its corrupt church, and its unjust God. Phippsburg was a prison; Darwin is freedom.
Central Government And Secession, Tyler Zuch
Central Government And Secession, Tyler Zuch
Political Science Capstone Research Papers
Governments and countries throughout history have risen and fallen while some have carried on through the years. However, some countries look very different from when they existed in previous times. Rulers and leaders have utilized many responses to rebellions and secessionist movements. These responses range from bloody and/or political repression, devolution, simply declaring secession unconstitutional or illegal, economic concessions/incentives, or even simply ignoring the problem. There is not only the debate as to what is the best way to put down a rebellion or secessionist movement, but also what is the right/moral response that the government should do to keep …
Restorative Justice In Post-Conflict Areas, Nancy Montgomery, Hillary Hook, Hilary Murphy
Restorative Justice In Post-Conflict Areas, Nancy Montgomery, Hillary Hook, Hilary Murphy
The Research and Scholarship Symposium (2013-2019)
This presentation sought to review the literature in regards to understanding international restorative justice efforts in conflict prone areas. After outlining a definition of restorative justice we explored its implementation in three different countries. First, we examined the historic precedence of indigenous sentencing courts in Australia. Second, we looked at current measures in Northern Ireland and their effectiveness. Third, we offered a predictive outline for the potential work in South Sudan. These case studies showed the past, present and future of restorative justice. With this knowledge we hoped that people would better understand the efficacy of restorative justice and recognize …

Young Adult Books Fiction Update, 2007-2008, Gregory A. Martin
Gregory A. Martin, M.L.I.S.
Most colleges and universities with teacher training programs have collections of children's and young adult books. In many cases, the librarians who are responsible for selecting these books have a number of other responsibilities as well. This workshop is designed for those busy librarians who are not always able to devote the time they would like to selecting young adult books. We will explore selected “best” young adult books published during 2007 and 2008.
