The Arthurian Legend In Malory And The 1970'S: A Comparison, Marian R. Rengel

The 1970's Arthurian fiction represents the latest step in the legend's growth; Sir Thomas Malory's Le Morte Darthur represents a landing five-hundred years down the staircase. The comparison of Malory and these 1970's authors in their handling of Arthur's and Merlin's characters, of magic, and of violence, not only distinguishes between authors and times, but explores the aspects of the legend which future writers will need to consider.

In working with Arthur's story, modern authors return the king to his place of prominence and work with explaining the inconsistencies in his character which they found in Malory - his abdication …

Genevieve Taggard began writing verse in 1907 when she was thirteen, and went on to publish eleven books of poetry and a biography of Emily Dickinson. Taggard, who died in 1948, published poems in The Nation, The New Republic, Kenyon Review, The New Yorker, and was widely anthologized, but never published a full-length collection. To the Natural World was assembled by Taggard’s daughter, Marcia Liles, especially for the Ahsahta Modern and Contemporary Poetry of the American West series. The Eugene O’Neill Newsletter is the official newsletter of the Eugene O’Neill Society, an organization of scholars, theater professionals, and enthusiasts, which began meeting in 1978. This publication, created by Suffolk University Professor Fred Wilkins in 1977, started off as part newsletter and part academic journal. In 1989, the publication name was changed to the Eugene O'Neill Review to denote its focus on scholarship. In recent years, the O'Neill Society re-started publication of the newsletter.
