Discovery, Invention, And The Mathematical Logic Loop, Ricardo J. Cordero-Soto, Dusty Wilson Jun 2022

Discovery, Invention, And The Mathematical Logic Loop, Ricardo J. Cordero-Soto, Dusty Wilson

ACMS Conference Proceedings 2022

In the present paper we introduce the Logic Loop as a nuanced ontology that weaves perspectives from various individual ontological positions. In Section 2 of the paper, we turn to various case studies as support for the Logic Loop. In Section 3, the Logic Loop is compared with three of the various ontological positions to show none sufficiently illustrates the Logic Loop’s makeup. In Section 4 we distinguish three broad categories of ontologies that will help us understand their importance as well as how the Logic Loop can address each of the three. In Section 5 we suggest a list …

The End Of Art Is Peace: Memory, Witness, And Restorative Imagination In Anna Burns’S Milkman And The Poetry Of Seamus Heaney, Sarah Davis Apr 2020

The End Of Art Is Peace: Memory, Witness, And Restorative Imagination In Anna Burns’S Milkman And The Poetry Of Seamus Heaney, Sarah Davis

English Senior Capstone

Northern Irish writers Seamus Heaney and Anna Burns both explore the suffocation and trauma of living in civil conflict as informed by their time spent living in Belfast during the Troubles. In her 2018 novel Milkman, Burns depicts a beleaguered community that has succumbed to hypervigilance and learned helplessness. Burns’s characters try desperately to establish normality by twisting memory and refusing to witness the present, resulting in an inability to imagine a future unmarred by violence. In his poetry collections North and Field Work, Heaney wrestles with the responsibility of an artist to such a community, to his art, and …

Ten Mathematicians Who Recognized God's Hand In Their Work (Part 2), Dale Mcintyre Jun 2017

Ten Mathematicians Who Recognized God's Hand In Their Work (Part 2), Dale Mcintyre

ACMS Conference Proceedings 2017

Scottish philosopher David Hume (1711-1776) once observed that "Whoever is moved by faith to assent to [the Christian religion], is conscious of a continued miracle in his own person, which subverts all the principles of his understanding, and gives him a determination to believe what is most contrary to custom and experience." Evidently Hume's cynical pronouncement did not apply to Descartes, Newton, Riemann, and other profound thinkers who believed God had commissioned and equipped them to glorify Him in their pursuit of truth through mathematics - And based on their extraordinary achievements the principles of their understanding do not appear …

Lewis In The Dock (Part 2): A Brief Review Of The Secular Media's Coverage Of The 50th Anniversary Of C.S. Lewis's Death, Richard James

Inklings Forever: Published Colloquium Proceedings 1997-2016

In 1999, I presented a paper here at this colloquium on the secular print media's response to the 1998 C.S. Lewis Centenary Celebration. In 2014, it seems only natural to do a similar paper on the secular media's coverage of the 50th anniversary of Lewis's death which also included the dedication in Poets' Corner in Westminster Abbey of a memorial stone in his honor. The number of articles again abound, even more than in 1998. This second paper will consider articles by syndicated literary, news and religious columnists from secular newspapers and periodicals; internet postings by public TV and secular …
