The cultural development of McAllen, Texas, has played an important role in the overall growth and advancement of this city. A community needs a well-rounded cultural program as well as good government, sound educational facilities, and a stable business climate. This study is an expository account of the events in the development of literature, cultural facilities, music, dance, drama, and the arts and science which perhaps have made McAllen, Texas, the leader of cultural activities in the Rio Grande Valley and Northern Mexico.

This is a study of Charles McClung McGhee (1828-1907), a Southern capitalist who achieved prominence as a railroad financier after the Civil War. Based primarily upon McGhee's personal papers in the McClung Historical Collection of Lawson McGhee Library, Knoxville, Tennessee, the dissertation describes McGhee's transformation from planter to businessman and his rise to power in the affairs of the East Tennessee, Virginia, and Georgia Railroad. Having become a provincial magnate by 1886, McGhee moved to New York City where he interested himself in the Richmond and West Point Terminal Company, a system of railroads which later became the Southern Railroad …

National Efficiency And Social Planning In Britain, 1914-1921, Norman Richard Eder

Traditionally, improvements in the quality of life in Britain resulted from the temporary fusion of sometimes opposite interests which spurred Parliamentary action. Therefore, reform was rarely a party issue. Each reform question was treated separately and never as a part of a body of similar measures. Individuals were free to support or oppose particular reforms according to their own interests and motivations. The result of this lack of strong consistent reformist sentiment was a pattern of piece-meal legislative action with a notable absence of comprehensive social planning. The First World War, however, brought new challenges to British society. As the …

The purpose of this study was to compile a history of dance in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1830 to 1940.

3. What were the dance forms, music, and attire in dance within the LDS church?

Radio propaganda was one of the chief weapons of psychological warfare used by the Nazis. When Hitler came to power, one of the aims of Nazi propaganda was to make his new order acceptable to the powers abroad, before preparing the ground for his expansionist moves. The new ruler of Germany regarded propaganda, rather then diplomacy, as the more suitable instrument to attain the desired end.
As a result of this new weapon in propaganda, there came many problems for the home front. How could they maintain the faith and morale of the people being submitted to this constant barrage? …
