Daniel R. Cronin [1925-2018] was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy from 1943 to 1946. He attended Duquesne University following his service from 1946 to 1950.

In 1829 legislation was submitted to the British Parliament, regarding improvements to the approaches to London Bridge. Referred to a Lord’s Committee, a report was issued, this being the appendix of exhibits offered in support. Note especially the maps at the end of the report. The original book, offered as an e-book here, is housed in the Wilbur J. & Sara Ruth Watson Bridge Book Collection, in Special Collections of the Michael Schwartz Library of Cleveland State University.

This lesson plan will introduce students to Arkansas folk music and three of its pioneers, Almeda Riddle, Jimmy Driftwood, and Patsy Montana. Through primary source analysis of recordings and sheet music students will identify characteristics of folk music, compare folk music to other styles of music, discuss the significance of the song, and consider the social and historical context of the lyrics.

Fr. Daniel Walsh, C.S.Sp. [b. 1958] was ordained in 1991. He attended Duquesne University, the University of St. Thomas, and Catholic Theological Union, where he earned a Master of Divinity in 1991. From 1992-96, he was a missionary in Carauari, Amazonas, Brazil, going on to serve in many different roles at universities and dioceses across the United States, including as the University Chaplain and Director for Campus Ministry at Duquesne University from 2013-18. Fr. Walsh is a Parochial Vicar for St. Paul Cathedral Parish in the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh. This is interview 1 of 4.

Students will learn about the objectives of each alliance and why each alliance was important to the formation of the third party, the populist movement. Students will also understand the historic figures of the Farmers’ Alliance, Women of the Farmers’ Alliance and the Knights of Labor. The Arnold Shankman Papers are a treasure trove of historical research in a variety of areas. Within the American Civil War era, Shankman had extensively researched the “copperhead” movement of northern opposition to the war and was an expert on one of its leading members, Clement Vallandigham. Pursuing his interest in ethnic history, Dr. Shankman was a pioneer in the study of how ethnic and immigrant groups viewed each other. The Ten Tribes of Wier in America was compiled and printed by William Swansea Wier in Atlanta, Georgia in 1933. The book covers the family and descendants of Thomas and Mary Withrow Wier from the 1700s through 1933. They eventually settled in Greenwood, S.C. There are handwritten notes in the book presumably added by the author. Other surnames found in the volume include: Blake, Britt, Dunbar, Gregg, Peden, McDill, McDowell, Mull, and Scott. The book includes photographs and a folding generational chart. Please see the attached document.
