The relevance of sanitation and sustainability is manifested in the promotion of public health, improvement of quality of life, and ensuring access to basic services as essential human rights. The comparative analysis between the cities of Caçador, Videira, and Concórdia, in Santa Catarina, in Brasil, and Sault Ste. In this paper, I point out that since the late 1960s, Brazilian tax law scholarship has increasingly rejected any attempt to integrate economic perspectives in the interpretation of tax legislation. The prevailing theory suggests that tax jurisdictions established in the Brazilian Constitution should be interpreted based on concepts from private law and should disregard any consideration of the economic context referred to by the constitutional legislator. Building on Luhmann’s systems theory, which suggests that operational closure of the legal system requires cognitive openness to other social subsystems, I argue that the predominant Brazilian tax theory (which I call private law …

Plants are exposed to a wide variety of environmental stress in the wild and have developed an equally diverse set of adaptations to tolerate them. The evolutionary processes that have led to this functional diversification, and the specific genes and physiological mechanisms involved, are of immense interest to both evolutionary biologists and crop breeders. In this dissertation I investigate adaptation to different types of environmental stress in two economically important grass species, seashore paspalum (Paspalum vaginatum Sw.) and rice (Oryza sativa L.).

This dissertation considers the work of a group of women artists in Brazil during the period of the military dictatorship (1964–1985), working in the genre of “performance-for-camera” (i.e., performance for film and video, rather than for a live audience). The artists are Lygia Pape (1927–2004), Letícia Parente (1930–1991), Anna Bella Geiger (b. 1933), Sonia Andrade (b. 1935), Anna Maria Maiolino (b. 1942), and Regina Vater (b. 1943). Some of these women were friends and colleagues who collaborated with each other; all of them contributed significantly to the development of film and video art in Brazil. En México, la investigación sobre oncología veterinaria es escasa. Este es el primer informe sobre las neoplasias más comunes en el perro doméstico en el noreste de México y establece las bases importantes para futuras investigaciones epidemiológicas. Se realizó un estudio retrospectivo de 2013 y prospectivo de enero a agosto de 2014, en el Departamento de Patología Animal de la Facultad de Medicina Veterinaria y Zootecnia de la Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas y en un laboratorio particular. La lucha armada fue un acontecimiento poco frecuente durante la dictadura de Alfredo Stroessner (1954-89), quien gobernó al Paraguay por más tiempo que cualquier otro líder en la historia del país. Este trabajo trata del auge del movimiento guerrillero durante 1959-1960 cuando un total de aproximadamente 250 opositores, mayormente jóvenes, entraron clandestinamente al país por la selva del Alto Paraná con miras a derrocar la dictadura. Pertenecían a dos movimientos separados – el Movimiento 14 de Mayo (M-14) y el Frente Unido de Liberación Nacional (FULNA).
