Family Resemblance: A Study Of Linguistic Conformity Within Family Systems, Rebecca L. Garnett

This thesis reports the results of an empirical study designed to test two hypotheses from the early psychiatric work of C. G. Jung: first, the existence of a "family disposition" toward the word association test (WAT), and second, the theory that there is interference between the "thinking" and the "feeling" functions in an individual's cognitive processing. The experiment involved 52 normal subjects from 15 families, ranging in age from 12 to 65. Subjects were tested using an association instrument adapted from the WAT developed by Jung (Jung, 1973). Community Attachment: A Research Note Examining The Effects Of Gender, Stephanie Sayers Fowler
Journal of Rural Social Sciences
The purpose of the study is to examine the effects of gender on feelings of community attachment. This is done through the development of a measure of emotional response to a community, which is then tested, using the techniques of confirmatory factor analysis, for gender variation. The data are from a 1985 survey mailed to 1400 residents of four rural North Carolina counties. Responses from 1200 of these residents provide the sample. The author develops a model which focuses not on the well established relationship between satisfaction with service provision and community attachment, but on the relationship between emotional responses …

Initiatives
EDUCATION. PARENTAL CHOICE. SCHOLARSHIPS. INITIATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT. Amends California Constitution to empower parents to choose a child's school. Requires State to provide a scholarship for every school-age child equal to at least 50 percent of prior fiscal year per pupil State and local government spending for K-12 education. Scholarship may be redeemed by public or private schools, under specified conditions. Requires Legislature to establish procedures whereby public school may become an independent scholarship-redeeming school. Authorizes required academic testing. Limits new regulation of private and scholarship-redeeming public schools. Scholarship expenditures and specified savings count toward education's existing constitutional minimum funding guarantee. …

Mark Snyder (1974) in his Self-Monitoring (SM) construct proposed there were two ways in which people might be classified: high and low self-monitors. High SM individuals attend to environmental cues and respond to the expectations of a given situation, while low SM individuals respond to their feelings, inner states and personal values. This construct has been extensively researched with adults and children, but not with adolescents.
David Elkind (1979), in his Imaginary Audience (IA) construct, suggested that upon reaching puberty, teenagers become vitally aware of how they are perceived by others. Elkind maintained that girls in early adolescence were more …
