I am an interdisciplinary artist, educator and writer from Southern California. My practice explores the ways in which images, text and even something as complex as human identity are all made up of fragmented parts that work together to establish visual narrative. Working across multiple media, I create artworks that are lyrical and chaotic and place them in highly aestheticized conditions. My work depicts universal themes of love, loss and resilience over social and political oppression. Additionally, my work questions ideas of social and personal validity, agency and the visually queer.

This study examines how the methods of assigning evidence-based programs are to be conducted for high risk youth in the juvenile justice system. It compares the costs of programs versus the costs of incarceration. The data collection site was NA Charderjian Youth Correctional Facility in Stockton, California. The "Incarcerated Men Putting Away Childish Things (IMPACT) program" was selected for this study. The Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation/Division of Juvenile Justice contracts with IMPACT, a non-profit organization, to facilitate self-help groups with a goal to reduce violence in institutions. A Likert scale questionnaire was used to survey 50 subjects.

This study explored the applicability of a business employability model to nursing. The need for nursing education programs to assess and track employability of NLRN graduates has been demonstrated by several studies. Successful alumni surveys help generate aggregate data that faculty can use to evaluate and strengthen their programs, stimulate change, and improve outcomes.

The purpose of this study is to contextualize the present day use of forced labor in West Africa within the larger historical framework of ongoing international labor exploitation in the chocolate industry as a whole. This study examines the English chocolate industry from its beginnings in the mid 19th century to the present day and its founders' complex and often contradictory relationships with domestic factory workers and African cocoa producers.

This study explored the relationship between Meaning of Work (MOW) in relation to the variables of age, cultural orientation, as well as the combined effect of age and cultural orientation. This study was conducted among 380 individuals in the form of an online survey. The survey to collect data for the study was hosted on www.qualtrics.com and a survey link was created. California State University San Bernardino's Sona-Systems (a research management system) was utilized to recruit students for the study and to award extra credit for research participation.

The purpose of this research study was to assess the attitudes and perspectives of social workers on the implentation of the Extended Foster Care within the Department of Child and Family Sevrices in San Bernardino county. Exploring and gathering the social workers' level of knowledge and assessing their attitudes toward Extended Foster Care allowed the researchers to collect information that could be utilized to understand challenges, and come up with the interventions to assist professionals to better prepare the foster youth for independence.

The purpose of this project was to examine the proposed Dream Act legislation and gain awareness into the challenges among undocumented Latino college students. Undocumented college students are foreign nationals who illegally arrived in the United States and continue to reside in the United States without legal documentation. This study incorporated a series of photographs taken on cemetery sites, census records, death cards, and epitaphs of the 18th and 19th centuries in the southeast. This data was then deciphered to reveal the possible biographies of the deceased individuals in Charleston, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia due to their rich abundance of 18th and 19th century cemeteries, public records, and historical societies. Can gravestone markers truly depict the whole sum of a person's life? Some gravestone markers exhibit an entire range of iconographic images, symbols, and epitaphs allowing the viewer to decipher information about the deceased.

The purpose of this thesis was to conduct a discourse analysis of conversational data from a radio station program in Southern California to see if the speakers' language displays hybridity theory. The radio program in question is unique because all speakers including the deejays and call in listeners do not exclusively speak English or Spanish but codemix or alternate between English and Spanish (Spanglish hereafter) during on-air conversations.

This study examined job search intensity among felony-convicted, substance-abusing individuals who have been court mandated to attend community based treatment. Drug courts provide counseling and other services to help convicted felons become productive members of society. Studies show that if released prisoners become employed, they are less likely to return to prison.

The purpose of this study was to determine how various demographic and systemic factors interacted to either facilitate or hinder the acquisition of mental health treatment, and if once acquired, what effect did that treatment have on subsequent offending. Mental health treatment is viewed as an effective and cost effective way of reducing offending in this population. Unfortunately, research also indicates that many juveniles due to various demographic and systemic impediments, do not acquire the mental health treatment they need. Consequently, their symptoms deteriorate to the point they manifest as delinquent.

This study examines the religious and spiritual activities that held the most value for older males and females, gender differences in these salient activities, and how elders rank church related activities with the idea of acquiring an understanding of the effects these activities had for the elderly. This thesis will examine the implications of urban wilderness, what representations of urban wilderness will look like, and whether we have, or can, move away from the archaic notion of wilderness that has prevailed since being defined in the Wilderness Act. While ecocritical theorists have not yet fully engaged in urban ecocritical analysis, the emerging trend to consider the city as a wild place is a direct result of a shift in cultural perspective, as is evidence through the development of natural and artificial place-making, such as the High Line Park in New York City.

The focus of this study is to identify the key elements of effective care in foster youth group homes from perspectives of the direct care staff. There were 41 participants in this study. They were all women of color 60-years of age and older. The participants were members of a church located in Los Angeles County.
