University students are reporting increasing levels of psychological distress and suicidality. Consistent with the Minority Stress Model, Sexual and Gender Minorities (SGMs) are especially vulnerable; this is often heightened at religious universities that are non-affirming of SGM identities . We studied mental health and religiosity among 219 undergraduates at a religiously diverse, yet non-affirming university. SGMs (n = 68) reported higher rates of suicidality (U = 3267.5, p < .001, rho = .28) and psychological distress (t = 4.16, df = 221, p < .001, d = 0.60) than nonSGMs. This suggests that SGMs are at a higher risk of negative mental health outcomes. Intrinsic religiosity acted as a protective factor for suicidality for SGM and nonSGM students. Religious attendance correlated with higher rates of internalized homonegativity (rho = .35, p = .006) and identity superiority (rho = -.36, p = .005) for SGMs. These findings highlight the complicated relationship between SGM identity and religiosity. This study underscores the importance of offering affirming religious spaces for SGM individuals and providing increased psychological support for SGM students at religious universities.

Social workers have a unique opportunity to serve people by meeting basic human needs, combating oppression and marginalization, and advocating for social justice. The purpose of this correlational, quantitative study was to measure the relationship between attitudes and practices among social workers toward the LGBTQ community with a specific examination of the religiosity of social workers, in order to assess if a social worker provides appropriate, inclusive services, regardless of their attitude toward this community. 2,828 social workers were asked to complete a 42 question researcher-created survey, Social Workers Attitudes and Practices Assessment, assessing their attitudes and practices toward the …

Reports on self-estimated life satisfaction and religiosity (present and future projected) in different populations of Mexican university students. Student levels of life satisfaction were comparable to the national norms (Mitofsky) but were lower than the national norms for religiosity. Unlike in the U.S., there was no correlation between religiosity and life satisfaction. Students in a gerontology program showed higher levels of religiosity than those in another university.

The study’s objective was to examine a possible relationship between religiosity and friendship quality through the relational model. We hypothesized that higher levels of religiosity would positively enhance friendship quality. Young adults (N = 118) from a small, Christian university participated in an online survey. We observed a main effect for religiosity of the participant and religiosity of the best friend in predicting greater support and depth as well as an interaction between the participants’ religiosity and best friend’s religiosity in predicting support.
