Prior audiologic research suggests that the personality traits of cochlear implant (CI) users likely influences their rehabilitation. Research has primarily focused on the “Big Five” personality domains (Agreeableness, Extraversion, Conscientiousness, Negative Emotionality, and Open-Mindedness) with limited information available on the underlying facets. The aim of this study was to better understand how personality domains and facets were related to CI user’s quality of life, barriers to CI use, and perceived hearing ability. Introduction

Rheumatoid (RA) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) are autoimmune conditions that progressively destroy joints, causing chronic, often debilitating pain and drastically affecting the quality of life. Though cannabis has been legalized for medical use in most states in the United States (US), the safety and efficacy of its use in inflammatory arthritis have still not been satisfactorily established. It is also suggested that curcumin possesses potent anti-inflammatory properties.

With five years of funding from the National Science Foundation's Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S-STEM) program, John Carroll University (JCU) will provide scholarships to 32 students with demonstrated financial need and academic promise. The scholarships will be awarded to first-year and transfer students who are pursuing bachelor's degrees in STEM in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics. The Scholars in the program will receive academic support that includes a STEM-specific orientation, a summer bridge program, cohort advising, and curricula introducing scientific thinking and research.

2023 IDIR Data Visualization Challenges

By utilizing the Twitter IDs and their corresponding posts in the database, we were able to create a UI that generates a graph that demonstrates a word or phrases' usage over time based on the number of times mentioned within the time span of the database (2011-2023). In the future, this could be improved by combining it with the Twitter API to monitor live trends and associations.

Background:

Medical Marijuana (MM) use is increasing, requiring healthcare professionals, such as dentists, to possess a working knowledge of MM. Previous studies have indicated that MM education is lacking in current healthcare education.

Methods:

A 50-question survey was created to assess, in detail, dental and dental hygiene faculty and students knowledge, practice, and attitudes toward MM, and to identify possible correlations between responses. The UKY Slang Collection Project is an ongoing effort (Fall 2021-present) to document the use of slang (group-specific language of informal register) primarily among college students at the University of Kentucky. The project is administered by Dr. Zada Komara (Lewis Honors College) as part of HON 140 Knowledge and Society, a foundational seminar about epistemology and ontology. Our study established clear demographic, mental health/physical injury, and physical performance data to be collected in a law enforcement recruit training program for injury surveillance and performance monitoring. Furthermore, we identified several items that were classified as relevant, but unlikely to be reported truthfully. These items which can help inform current practice and assist clinicians to determine the trustfulness of information received by patients when working within law enforcement environments.

The Hall Family Collection can generally be described in two parts. The first part is Letters from the Attic, which are more than 5,000 documents that Andrena Hall Brunotte transcribed into 16 volumes. Brunotte’s transcription project established an “original order” to this part of the collection that the processing archivist does their best to adhere to. All of these materials were found in one large steamer trunk and organized by Brunotte in chronological order. Boxes 1 to 4 of the collection house the paper transcriptions (3,330 pages). Purpose: Empathy is the ability to understand and identify with another person’s feelings, and is important to develop in students. It is often measured using the Jefferson Scale of Empathy in Health Professions Students (JSE-HPS), which has significant cost. The Kiersma-Chen Empathy Scale (KCES) was developed to measure empathy at no cost. Initial reliability was determined from a cohort of pharmacy and nursing students. The purpose of this study was to determine psychometric properties of the KCES, comparing it to the JSE-HPS for validity for students in pursuing a career in healthcare-related fields.
