Orthodontically Induced External Root Resorption In Extraction Versus Non-Extraction Treatment Modalities – A Retrospective Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (Cbct) Study, Jaykishan Patel

Purpose of this study was to evaluate orthodontically induced external apical root resorption using cone beam computed tomography in patients receiving orthodontic treatment with or without extractions. Records of 188 consecutively treated patients who received orthodontic treatment with or without extractions were evaluated. Pre-and post-treatment root lengths of maxillary incisors, volumes of maxillary central incisors, and apex displacement of either right or left maxillary central incisors were measured using Invivo 5.4 or ITK-SNAP 3.8.0 software. The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the efficacy of a glass ionomer varnish in preventing demineralization of enamel adjacent to and some distance away from an orthodontic bracket. Forty extracted human molars were divided into four different treatment groups (varnish in distilled water, varnish in acetic acid, enamel in acetic acid, and enamel in distilled water). Using micro computed tomography (micro-CT) as a reference standard, the purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the influences of bone mineral loss and radiographic contrast in digital periapical (PA) film and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Seven dog and human mandibles were sectioned, followed by modification via cortical bone drilling to create 248 lesions and/or trabecular bone acid demineralization to create 96 coronal slice pairs. Pretreatment and post-treatment radiographs (PA, CBCT, and/or micro-CT) were taken for lesion rating/perception in addition to two-dimensional (area) and three-dimensional (volumetric) measurements of 50 drilling lesions and 20 coronal slice pairs. 4-7% bone mineral loss …

Inflammation is the complex biological response to the stimuli triggered by various factors like pathogens, damaged cells, or irritants. Constant uncontrolled acute inflammation may become chronic conditions, leading to significant tissue damage, contributing to a series of chronic inflammatory diseases. Our lab has been working on the different types of inflammatory diseases and has developed multiple macromolecular prodrug conjugates for the better therapeutic efficacy and reduced toxicity. The purpose of this study was to determine if local application of enamel matrix derivative (Emdogain; EMD), combined with minimally invasive papilla reflection/root preparation (PR/RP), is effective in improving probe depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL), and interproximal bone height (IBH) in persistent 6-9 mm periodontal pockets in patients on periodontal maintenance therapy (PMT). Fifty periodontal maintenance patients with advanced chronic periodontitis presenting with a 6-9 mm interproximal PD were included in study. Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease induced by complex interactions between the host immune system and pathogens that affect the integrity of teeth-supporting tissues. To prevent disease progression and thus preserve the alveolar bone structure, simultaneous anti-inflammatory and osteogenic intervention is essential. Hence, simvastatin (SIM) and a glycogen synthase kinase 3 beta inhibitor (BIO) were selected as anti-inflammatory and osteogenic agents.

Background. Rates for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Douglas County, specifically gonorrhea and chlamydia, are among the highest in the nation. Adolescents and young adults between the ages of 15 and 24 are one of the most at-risk groups for acquiring either STI. Though not fatal itself, gonorrhea and chlamydia can lead to serious complications and physical discomfort in both males and females. Evidence-based and age-appropriate sexual health education has been proven to reduce the risk of STIs. Studies have shown that comprehensive education programs with a focus beyond abstinence are effective in promoting safe sex practices.

CDHD provides professional development funds to all staff to attend workforce development opportunities that can be used on specific training relevant to their position. BACKGROUND: Rural residents are less likely to receive screening for colorectal cancer (CRC) than urban residents. However, the mechanisms underlying this disparity, especially among people aged 50-64 years old with private health insurance, are not well understood. We examined the impact of travel time on stage at CRC diagnosis.

METHODS: This retrospective cohort study used data from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska. Despite the availability of pretravel health advice, travelers remain at risk for exposure to common organisms as well as emerging pathogens. With low rates of travel clinic utilization, it is important for the general practitioner to remain aware of the importance of travel health, risk factors unique to individual patients, and evolving threats. This review highlights important considerations when evaluating ill travelers, incorporating emerging infectious threats.
