Nitrous oxide (N₂O) is an important greenhouse gas (GHG) implicated in global climate change. Process-based ecosystem models, such as DAYCENT and DNDC, have been widely used to predict GHG fluxes in agricultural systems. However, neither model has yet been applied to warm-season turfgrasses such as zoysiagrass. This study parameterized, calibrated, and validated the DAYCENT and DNDC models for N₂O emissions from Meyer zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonicaSteud.) using Bayes’ theorem and field data from Braun and Bremer (2018a, 2019) and Lewis and Bremer (2013). Physical activity (PA) is a widely accepted strategy to manage chronic diseases like type 1 diabetes; however, unique PA barriers likely result in lower PA levels among person(s) with type 1 diabetes (PWT1D), compared to person(s) without type 1 diabetes (PWOT1D). The integrated theory of health behavior change (ITHBC) (i.e., knowledge/beliefs, self-regulation, and self-management) provides a helpful framework for understanding PA and other health behaviors. This research aimed to determine differences in PA between adult PWT1D and PWOT1D, and characterize their PA-related behaviors using the ITHBC. Wichita State University is known for its advances in STEM research for many decades, but there were few inventions patented by WSU. In recent years, commercialization of the results of applied research, especially bioengineering, became a university focus; the number of WSU owned patents increased significantly. WSU initiated several initiatives to support university inventors. These included the development of the Innovation Campus and WSU Venture. The Wichita State University Libraries decided to join these efforts by not only providing information to inventors as a Patent and Trademark Resource Center but to archive and increase awareness of their patents. Since July of 2017, approximately 72 Kansas school districts and approximately 183 schools have volunteered to redesign their schools around four redesign principles as part of the Kansans Can School Redesign Project. The earliest cohort of volunteer schools were led by the two redesign specialists through a planning process that included engaging community stakeholders in developing a shared vision for their redesigned and innovative school. Many of the earliest launch schools proved to be very successful in engaging stakeholders to collect authentic feedback early in the process. However, some school districts were surprised by pushback from stakeholders early in the …

Drilled sorghum is normally done at the super-high population at row spacing between 7.5 and 10 inches, compared to rows planted at the spacing between 15 and 30 inches. Thompson (1983) growing super-thick sorghum at the Hays Research Station from 1974-1977, found that sorghum planted in narrow rows (12-18 in.) often produced higher yields than when planted in wide rows (24-40 in.). Norwood (1982) in Garden City repeated Thompson’s work and also came to the conclusion that yield of high population narrow row sorghum could exceed that of the low population-wide row when subsoil moisture and precipitation were adequate. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of parity and stage of gestation on maternal weight gain and efficiency of feed use in group-housed gestating sows from a commercial sow farm. A total of 712 females (Camborough, PIC, Hendersonville, TN) were group-housed from d 5 to 112 of gestation and individually fed with electronic sow feeders (ESF). Feed intake and BW were recorded daily throughout gestation via the ESF and a scale located in an alleyway just after sows exited the feeding station. This case study reviews aspects of establishing a sustainable digital scholarship center, supporting open access through the institutional repository (K-State Research Exchange - K-REx) and an open access publishing platform (New Prairie Press – NPP) along with other outreach efforts. Developing clinical competencies is a foundational feature for most mental health disciplines. Evidence suggests that many couples attending marital therapy regularly report that financial concerns are a significant contributor to their collective distress. Despite the reports of financial distress being a common occurrence, many practitioners are unfamiliar with available resources to remediate the problem. The authors address the concepts of practitioner competence in financial literacy, client financial problems, the benefits of financial literacy, and suggest a referral process, grounded in ethical decision making, that provides appropriate treatment considerations to clients experiencing such distress. Agricultural researchers are engaged in the growing open access (OA) movement, either publishing in OA journals or archiving in OA repositories. The latter is reflected in the use of the institutional repository (IR) at Kansas State University (K-State), a land grant institution. K-State library faculty are analyzing faculty publications to determine the publishing and archiving habits of selected researchers. Reviewing copyright agreements from journals reveals those with policies for archiving post-prints in an IR; articles by these authors are compared to their total three-year article output to determine the efficacy of the current IR program at K-State. The purpose of this study was to investigate information and communication technologies (ICT) usage among Agriscience teachers in Trinidad and Tobago. This knowledge will be used to develop preservice and inservice professional development programming for these teachers. Eighty-five percent (n = 77) of the secondary Agriscience teachers responded to a survey that assessed: (a) technology current use, (b) technology beliefs, (c) technology skills, (d) technology intentions, (e) barriers to technology use, and (f) personal data. Publishers of online resources, including Extension publishing units at land-grant universities, are generally concerned about the discoverability of the resources they publish. Broken links create an obstacle between potential audiences and Extension resources, and thus reduce discoverability. This study examines the feasibility of Extension publishers using metadata (information about resources), digital object identifiers (instead of URLs), and/or institutional repositories (in combination with Extension catalogs) to improve the discoverability of their published resources. The use of rich, standardized metadata is recommended as a best practice in digital publishing. Angular limb deformity, observed in several breeds of cattle, results in a knock-kneed and splay-footed condition in the front legs. This study shows that angular limb deformity is a congenital structural defect, inherited as a simple, autosomal, recessive trait.

At least for the varieties we studied, hard red winter wheat was superior to soft red winter wheat in beef cattle rations. That contradicts the perception that feed wheats should be soft. The net energy values of Larned hard wheat and Hart soft wheat were 102% and 99% that of corn, respectively. Adding Rumensin® to wheat rations improved performance, probably by reducing acidosis instead of increasing ration net energy value. There was a positive associative effect when wheat and milo were fed together but not when wheat and corn or corn and milo were combined. Steer performance was improved by …
