Data Driven And Machine Learning Based Modeling And Predictive Control Of Combustion At Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition Engines, Behrouz Khoshbakht Irdmousa

Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports

Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition (RCCI) engines operates has capacity to provide higher thermal efficiency, lower particular matter (PM), and lower oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions compared to conventional diesel combustion (CDC) operation. Achieving these benefits is difficult since real-time optimal control of RCCI engines is challenging during transient operation. To overcome these challenges, data-driven machine learning based control-oriented models are developed in this study. These models are developed based on Linear Parameter-Varying (LPV) modeling approach and input-output based Kernelized Canonical Correlation Analysis (KCCA) approach. The developed dynamic models are used to predict combustion timing (CA50), indicated mean effective pressure (IMEP), …

Exploring Improvements To Space-Bounded Derandomization From Better Pseudorandom Generators, Boxian Wang May 2023

Exploring Improvements To Space-Bounded Derandomization From Better Pseudorandom Generators, Boxian Wang

Computer Science Senior Theses

Saks and Zhou used Nisan’s PRG in a recursive manner to obtain BPL ⊆ L^(3/2). We describe how this framework could be generalized to use arbitrary PRGs following Armoni’s sampler idea. We then give a theorem relating the seed length of a better PRG to the implied improvements in derandomizing BPL. Recently, Hoza used Armoni’s PRG in the Saks-Zhou framework to obtain an even better derandomization. We describe the construction of Armoni’s PRG and conjecture that by using basic components other than extractors, parameters in that construction could be improved. Under some assumptions, we calculate the extent to which such …

Bacteriosis is one of the most prevalent and deadly infections that affect peach crops globally. Timely detection of Bacteriosis disease is essential for lowering pesticide use and preventing crop loss. It takes time and effort to distinguish and detect Bacteriosis or a short hole in a peach leaf. In this paper, we proposed a novel LightWeight (WLNet) Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model based on Visual Geometry Group (VGG-19) for detecting and classifying images into Bacteriosis and healthy images. Profound knowledge of the proposed model is utilized to detect Bacteriosis in peach leaf images. First, a dataset is developed which consists …

Simple Or Complex? Together For A More Accurate Just-In-Time Defect Predictor, Xin Zhou, Donggyun Han, David Lo May 2022

Simple Or Complex? Together For A More Accurate Just-In-Time Defect Predictor, Xin Zhou, Donggyun Han, David Lo

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Just-In-Time (JIT) defect prediction aims to automatically predict whether a commit is defective or not, and has been widely studied in recent years. In general, most studies can be classified into two categories: 1) simple models using traditional machine learning classifiers with hand-crafted features, and 2) complex models using deep learning techniques to automatically extract features. Hand-crafted features used by simple models are based on expert knowledge but may not fully represent the semantic meaning of the commits. On the other hand, deep learning-based features used by complex models represent the semantic meaning of commits but may not reflect useful …

Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

The purpose of this project was to try and better understand the risks posed to the Yunguilla community in an increased rainfall climate change scenario. While climate modeling is not exact, many models do predict increased rain and storm intensity in this area (“Explainer…”, 2018). This project studies erosion risk, and the potential damage to crops through a series of experiments and mapping.

The first experiment used three hydration percentages 50, 75 and 100, to water two crop types, Fragaria and Caspium, and monitored plant health to see the water's effect. The hydraulic stress testing did not model an increased …

Does Restoration Of Urban Riparian Zones Impact Stream Water Quality In Portland, Oregon, Ash Ivanov Mar 2022

Does Restoration Of Urban Riparian Zones Impact Stream Water Quality In Portland, Oregon, Ash Ivanov

University Honors Theses

Riparian zones influence urban stream quality through factors such as shading the stream, adding nutrients through leaf litter, stabilizing the stream banks to reduce turbidity, and filtering toxins out of the water. Riparian restoration often involves changing plant assemblage to be more diverse and include primarily native species instead of non-native, improving connection to the stream through changing stream morphology, improving species habitat, and reducing pollution. The goal of this study was to determine if urban riparian restoration projects in the region were successful, and if not, why that may be the case. The study was performed in the Portland, …

Simulation Of Nitrous Oxide Emissions In Zoysia Turfgrass Using Daycent And Dndc Ecosystem Models, Mu Hong, Yao Zhang, Ross Braun, Dale J. Bremer

Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station Research Reports

Nitrous oxide (N2O) is an important greenhouse gas (GHG) implicated in global climate change. Process-based ecosystem models, such as DAYCENT and DNDC, have been widely used to predict GHG fluxes in agricultural systems. However, neither model has yet been applied to warm-season turfgrasses such as zoysiagrass. This study parameterized, calibrated, and validated the DAYCENT and DNDC models for N2O emissions from Meyer zoysiagrass (Zoysia japonicaSteud.) using Bayes’ theorem and field data from Braun and Bremer (2018a, 2019) and Lewis and Bremer (2013). Results indicated DAYCENT, but not DNDC, reasonably simulated the impacts of irrigation …

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

This paper is concerned with the modeling framework based on power and control for a mechanical system that has nonlinear, unstable, and under-actuated characteristic features, based on an analogy, which is developed by using the Brayton and Moser's (BM) equations between mechanical and electrical systems. The analogy is based on a mixed-potential function generalized for BM. The mixed-potential function for a cart - pole double inverted pendulum (CPDIP) system is used as a new building block for modeling, analysis, and controller design. The analogy allows for the exact transfer of results from electrical circuit synthesis and analysis to the mechanical …

Performance Improvement Speed Control Of Ipmsm Drive Based On Nonlinearcurrent Control, Muhammad Usama, Jaehong Kim Jan 2021

Performance Improvement Speed Control Of Ipmsm Drive Based On Nonlinearcurrent Control, Muhammad Usama, Jaehong Kim

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Recently model predictive control (MPC) scheme emerges as an efficient current control technique for dynamic performance of motor drives. For excellent dynamic performance, maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) control technique is utilized to achieve maximum torque while using minimum current constrain in contrast to conventional qaxis current control. Model predictive current control (MPCC) scheme alongside MTPA control is employed to replace the traditional constant gain proportional-integral (PI) current control and a nonlinear hysteresis current (HC) control schemes. The PI and hysteresis current controller offers satisfactory performance at ideal conditions but, with variable speed and load conditions, these control schemes cause …
