Comparing Online And Traditional Assessment Practices In Middle School Mathematics, Maxwell Krueger, Kathy Enger
Comparing Online And Traditional Assessment Practices In Middle School Mathematics, Maxwell Krueger, Kathy Enger
Dissertations, Theses, and Projects
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers across the world have been forced to explore different modalities of assessment, many of them virtual. Now that many of the most restricting policies for schools due to pandemic have been lifted, the use of these virtual assessments remain. Due to the recent nature of their use though means that not many studies have looked into the implications of these assessments on students let alone middle school students. This study aims to help fill in some of the gaps in this research. In this study, students will take one of two assessments …
Parents' Experiences At A Mathematics Workshop Focused On K-2 Content, Abigail W. Wilkerson
Parents' Experiences At A Mathematics Workshop Focused On K-2 Content, Abigail W. Wilkerson
Honors College Theses
Parents’ beliefs towards math have been shown to impact their children’s academic achievement in the subject (Elliott & Bachman, 2018; Maloney et al., 2015). With the constant changing of math standards, the math taught in today’s schools may be different from the way parents were taught math. This change can lead to feelings of discomfort or nervousness when the subject is brought up. A parent workshop geared towards helping parents better understand the way math content is being taught can help them to feel more comfortable with math and more prepared to help their children. To help combat this issue, …

Caminatas Comunitarias Para Enseñar Matemáticas En La Costa Caribe Colombiana: Un Enfoque Rural, Ricela Feliciano-Semidei, Kevin A. Palencia Infante, Jonathan A. Cervantes Barraza
Faculty Books & Book Chapters
Mathematically Modeling How Trapping Regimes That Target Specific Crayfish Life Stages Impact Removal Efficacy, Rini Pattison
Mathematically Modeling How Trapping Regimes That Target Specific Crayfish Life Stages Impact Removal Efficacy, Rini Pattison
Seaver College Research And Scholarly Achievement Symposium
The red swamp crayfish, Procambarus clarkii, is an invasive species introduced into several streams within the Santa Monica Mountains (SMM) in Southern California. Crayfish predation decimates native aquatic species. Thus, the Mountains Restoration Trust (MRT) and Environmental Restoration Group have worked to remove crayfish through regular trapping in Malibu Creek.
To aid conservation efforts, former SURB students William Milligan and Dev Patel developed mathematical models of crayfish removal efficacy. Milligan created a differential equation model of how crayfish removal affects local newt populations. Patel expanded Milligan’s crayfish model by creating a discrete model of the crayfish life cycle that newly …
The Difficulties Faced By Teachers Of The Lower Basic Stage In Teaching Mathematics Under The Corona Pandemic "Ain Al-Basha Brigade As A Model", هيام صالحية
Jerash for Research and Studies Journal مجلة جرش للبحوث والدراسات
This study aims to identify the severity of the difficulties faced by teachers of the lower basic stage in teaching English in the shadow of the Corona pandemic in Ain Al-Basha District, according to the estimates of its teachers, over the period between 2021 and 2022, and also aimed to identify the extent of statistically significant differences in the level of The severity of the difficulties is attributed to the variables of gender (male, female) or age, according to the responses of mathematics teachers for the lower basic stage in Ain Al-Basha District.
The study followed the descriptive analytical method. …
Uniting Students With Literacy Connections In Mathematics, Bridget K. Coleman, Michelle Rasheed, Nancy B. Ruppert, Toni M. Williams
Uniting Students With Literacy Connections In Mathematics, Bridget K. Coleman, Michelle Rasheed, Nancy B. Ruppert, Toni M. Williams
South Carolina Association for Middle Level Education Journal
Literature provides opportunities for students to connect to mathematics, as well as each other. Reflecting on personal identities, storytelling, and place-based connections are avenues to enhancing the relevancy of content across the curriculum. Literature can bridge the divide for students reluctant to see the beauty in mathematics. It can also be the impetus in helping unite students as they gain a better understanding of cultures and places beyond their own. Stories, along with interactive tasks, give context for collaborative experiences. This article shares resources and strategies for building understanding and collaboration among students using cross-curricular connections between mathematics and literacy.

Constellations: Online STEM Teacher Education Journal
The authors emphasize the underutilized opportunities that exist in overlapping and integrating these two disciplines, advocating for a cross-curricular approach to enhance student learning and understanding. The paper highlights the connections between mathematics and science standards, particularly focusing on the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Process Standards and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Science and Engineering Practices. These standards not only demonstrate the interconnection between the two subjects but also highlight their importance in shaping informed citizens.

Pairwise Comparison Method Toolkit. A Toolkit For Countries To Measure Global Learning Outcomes., United Nations Educational, Scientific And Cultural Organization (Unesco), Australian Council For Educational Research (Acer)
Global education monitoring
This toolkit has been co-authored by the Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Centre at the Australian Council for Education Research (ACER) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Institute for Statistics (UIS). ACER provides technical support to UIS, which has been mandated to monitor the progress of countries towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) in education to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and to promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” (United Nations, 2021). The GEM Centre sponsors and contributes to public goods and activities that facilitate education systems reporting against SDG 4 in a globally …

Quik Church, Route 3.141592, Sarah Voss
Journal of Humanistic Mathematics
The following set of poems are from one of ten sections in a collection of poetry called Quik Church: Short Poems that Travel Far. Each section illustrates one of many “streets” which individuals often take on their spiritual journey through life, e.g., the Old Gods Path, Nature Trail, Memory Skyway, Mystic Avenue, Pastoral Lane, and so on. This one, Route 3.141592, is the route of mathematics and the science that depends on mathematics.

Investigating Prodigy Math Program To Improve Students' Success In Mathematics, Justin A. Bledsaw
Investigating Prodigy Math Program To Improve Students' Success In Mathematics, Justin A. Bledsaw
Masters Theses
This study investigates whether Prodigy improves student achievement in mathematics; whether Prodigy improves, specifically, math achievement of special education students, students of different ethnicities, and students of different genders. Further, the study wanted to explore student perceptions of Prodigy. The study was conducted in two fifth grade classrooms with a total of 31 participants. Two mathematics units were utilized to compare; one on multiplying whole numbers and the other on dividing whole numbers. In addition, participants completed a survey and a focus group interview to find out participant perceptions of Prodigy. Results reveal that the whole group scored higher in …
