Introducing Occupational Balance And Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction To Women At The New Beginnings Center, Piper Cleveland Sep 2020

Introducing Occupational Balance And Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction To Women At The New Beginnings Center, Piper Cleveland

OTD Capstone Projects

The New Beginnings Center is a workout facility that provides coaching in nutrition, fitness, and health behaviors for women experiencing obesity in low socioeconomic classes. The purpose of this project was to enhance the current 12-week curriculum based on reserch and client feedback, as well as create a potfolio for the marketing team of evidence and testamonies. The two curriculum additions focused on stress reduction through occupational balance and mindfulness. In the "Schedule Redesign" class, we focused on the importance of finding maladaptive time use in their schedule (e.g. watching too much TV, laying in bed too long, etc.) and …

Self Regulation Protocol For Move Inclusive Dance, Rebecca Denton Aug 2020

Self Regulation Protocol For Move Inclusive Dance, Rebecca Denton

OTD Capstone Projects

Due to the prevalence of autism, Down Syndrome, and sensory processing disorder in the dancers of MOVE Inclusive Dance, a self regulation protocol was formed. This protocol will help the dancers transition from the studio to recital hall in a sensory inclusive way. The protocol is a holistic program that lasts 6 weeks and encompasses numerous aspects including yoga, sensory room, visual supports, social narratives, and optional nutrition guide.

Impact Of Chain Architecture On The Thickness Dependence Of Physical Aging Rate Of Thin Polystyrene Films, Gregory Brown, Elizabeth Lewis, Bryan D. Vogt Jan 2020

Impact Of Chain Architecture On The Thickness Dependence Of Physical Aging Rate Of Thin Polystyrene Films, Gregory Brown, Elizabeth Lewis, Bryan D. Vogt

Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects

The dynamics of polymer thin films have been demonstrated to be significantly altered from the bulk, but the origins of such differences are not well defined. In this work, we seek to understand the differences in the structural dynamics (or physical aging) of polystyrene (PS) through branching and other well defined architectures (comb and centipede). The aging dynamics of ultrathin films (< 30 nm) differ from relatively thick films (100-150nm) with linear PS thin films aging more rapidly than the relatively “bulk-like” thick films. Ellipsometric measurements are used to characterize the physical aging rate of the films. The change in film thickness and refractive index as the films are held below the glass transition temperature (Tg) provides a simple measure of the physical aging. In this study, four different architectures (linear, comb, 4 arm star, and centipede) will be investigated. For each PS architecture, the aging rate will be determined for film …

Attempts At Subject Pronouns Across Assessments In Preschoolers, Lauren Riggleman Jan 2020

Attempts At Subject Pronouns Across Assessments In Preschoolers, Lauren Riggleman

Honors Projects

Young children sometimes substitute pronouns, for example, saying ‘her goes’ instead of ‘she goes.’ Seventeen four-year-olds’ use of third person pronouns (i.e. he, she, they, her, him, them) was assessed with both a formal test and an informal play-based language sample. This study compares pronoun use across the two assessment settings. The percentage of correct pronoun use was calculated from the language samples, and pronoun attempts on the formal assessment were counted. Out of the 17 children observed, ten children had perfect pronoun use on the informal assessment, and eight children attempted all pronouns in the play-based language sample. The …

Cochlear Implants And Executive Function In Children: A Current Review Of Literature, Jessica Bonezzi, Dr. Alex Meibos Jan 2020

Cochlear Implants And Executive Function In Children: A Current Review Of Literature, Jessica Bonezzi, Dr. Alex Meibos

Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects

We systematically reviewed existing research on cochlear implantation and executive function to determine if children with bilateral profound hearing loss with cochlear implantation have executive functioning levels similar to their normal hearing peers. Overall, we wanted to know if cochlear implantation resulted in executive functioning in deaf children. A systematic analysis of research was performed using the Preferred Reporting of Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) technique. Research comparing unilaterally implanted children to bilaterally implanted children shows that bilaterally implanted children scored higher on verbal IQ tests. Research comparing predominately bilaterally implanted children to norms presents split results.

Strategic Plan Presentation: Boeing, Mary E. Fewer

Undergraduate Theses, Professional Papers, and Capstone Artifacts

After a thorough industry analysis and internal analysis of Boeing, it has been determined that Boeing should: pursue a nostalgic marketing plan where the company admits their recent mistakes and explains their solutions, focus on their market segment of defense contracts in light of both recent issues with Boeing's commercial airlines and impact of the airline industry due to COVID-19, and improve internal communications and human resource management by providing more transparent communication to Boeing staff and professional development programs with clear career paths.
