Some further comments about the intent of this study should help clarify what I am attempting to do. I do not plan to develop a universally valid definition of pornography. The Missouri Synod of the Lutheran Church in America (LCMS) has had a long history of opposition against the lodge. This opposition still exists today in the constitution of the synod and by select individuals within the synod who urge those in authority) to "hold the line". The history of opposition to the lodge has been called the "lodge problem" or the "lodge question".
