Search For Selection: Genomic, Transcriptomic, And Phenotypic Investigations Of Spotted Seatrout (Cynoscion Nebulosus), Jingwei Song

Dissertations, Theses, and Masters Projects

Climate change has resulted in both increased mean water temperature and higher frequencies of extreme water temperatures in coastal areas. These new thermal regimes exert strong selective pressure on the thermal physiology of coastal aquatic species. Phenotypic plasticity (the ability of one genotype to display multiple phenotypes) and local adaptation (increased fitness to local environment due to natural selection) dictate both short-term (from hours to days to weeks) and long-term (from years to decades) resilience of a species. To better predict how a species will respond to the negative impacts of climate change, one first needs to know the current …

The identification of these material signatures is based on extensive research into geopolitical histories, …

Mindfulness Moderates The Association Between Internalizing Symptomatology And Emotional Eating, Ti Hsu Jan 2020

Mindfulness Moderates The Association Between Internalizing Symptomatology And Emotional Eating, Ti Hsu

Dissertations, Theses, and Masters Projects

Emotional eating is defined as the tendency to increase food consumption in order to modify negative emotional states. Although it is counter to the more typical response of decreasing food intake in the face of distress, emotional eating is observed in both eating disordered and healthy populations and is associated with overweight and obesity. Theories on emotional eating attribute its cause to inadequate emotion regulation, specifically an inability to draw awareness to and accept distress. Mindfulness, or the ability to pay attention to one's internal and external experiences, is negatively associated with both emotional eating and psychological distress. Only one …

Experiments And Theory On Dynamical Hamiltononian Monodromy, Matthew Perry Nerem Jan 2020

Experiments And Theory On Dynamical Hamiltononian Monodromy, Matthew Perry Nerem

Dissertations, Theses, and Masters Projects

In classical mechanics, one of the advanced topics is the study of action and angle variables. These variables are quite abstract, but very powerful tools for describing classical motion. If a system has a full set of conservation laws, and if the motion of the system is bounded, then the motion can be described as flow on a torus. Action variables are functions of the conservation laws that identify the torus on which the motion lies, while angle variables tell the location of the system on that torus. In certain cases, the functional relationship between the conservation laws and the …
