A Study Of The Relative Effectivness Of Four Insolubilizing Agents In Starch-Latex And Protein-Latex Coatings, Steven D. Bennett
Paper Engineering Senior Theses
The process of offset lithography requires several unique characteristics in paper. One of these is an ability in the sheet surface to accept water without deteriorating. Offset coatings commonly use starch and protein in their binder systems. These adhesives are inherently water sensitive. The characteristic of water resistance in coated grades can be obtained through the use of crosslinking agents. Among the more commonly used are unreaformaldehyde, melamine-formaldehyde, and glyoxal. A more recent development involves the use of ammonium zirconium carbonate.
Through the years many studies have examined the effects of various insolubilizing agents in starch coatings. Most of these …

Increasing Head Extension With The Use Of Automated Contingent Music, Susan Corman
Increasing Head Extension With The Use Of Automated Contingent Music, Susan Corman
Masters Theses
The experiment was an attempt to increase proper head posture using automated music as a reinforcer and to determine if this behavior would generalize to another setting.
Two cerebral palsy and mentally retarded subjects participated. Subject 1 was 24-year-old female, while Subject 2 was a 17-year-old male.
The two conditions included in this study were Baseline (no-music), and Treatment (music contingent on proper head posture). Generalization (no-music) was assessed throughout all experimental conditions. Both subjects wore the mercury-switch head apparatus during Baseline, Treatment and Generalization sessions.
During Baseline, the overall mean percent of proper head posture for Subject 1 and …

Analysis And Interpretation Of The 5,000 Ft (1,538 M) Red-Bed Sequence Encountered In The Sparks Et Al. #1-8 (Michigan Basin Deep Borehole), John H. Fowler
Masters Theses
A 5,000 ft (1,538 m) pre-Mt. Simon (Upper Cambrian) red-bed sequence, encountered in the Gratiot County deep borehole (Sparks et al. #1-8) and herein named the North Star Formation, consists of undeformed recurring beds of immature arkosic sandstone 2 to 34 in (5 to 85 cm) thick. These beds grade upward from erosional basal contacts into mudstone units 1 in to 12 ft (3 cm to 3.8 m) thick. Within the sandstones, grading, horizontal lamination, and crossstratification define Bouma intervals "a", "b", and "c", which combine to form incomplete Bouma sequences. Mudstones exhibit abundant horizontal laminations. Secondary sedimentary structures (load …

The United States And China: From Noncommunication To Diplomatic Relations, Mary Jeanne Patrick
Masters Theses
After more than two decades of fundamental differences due to lack of direct diplomatic relations, the People's Republic of China and the United States are developing a harmonious working relationship. Friendly relations between these two major nations began to improve in 1972 during President Richard Nixon's visit to China that had been arranged by Henry Kissinger, Assistant for National Security Affairs.
The purpose of this thesis is to show that nations can overcome their negative stereotyped images with one another when their leaders will enter into effective communication.
Chapter I considers the historical aspects of the Sino-American relationship.
Chapter II …
