The Distribution Of Household Labor: Comparing Spouses' Role Orientation, Ratings Of Satisfaction, And Amount Of Discussion, Christina Elaine Hanson

This study of 114 married couples investigated Role Orientation and how it related to satisfaction with the division of household labor. Husbands' and wives' Role Orientations were significantly different, with husbands being more traditional. Spouses Role Orientation scores were correlated. Husbands were more satisfied with the household division of labor. A wife's Role Orientation score was associated with her labor satisfaction, however, the husband's Role Orientation wasn't associated with his satisfaction. Couple's combined Role Orientations were related to their labor satisfaction, and as scores became more modern, couple satisfaction decreased. Recent advancements in neuropsychology have initiated theoretical advancements in cognitive psychology, particularly concerning the constructs of interference and metacognition. These constructs share similar cognitive functioning and this study investigated the relationship between them. It was expected that students with higher monitoring ability would demonstrate lower susceptibility to interference. Students from undergraduate Educational Psychology classes were administered three tests: two measures of interference, and one measure of metacognitive monitoring ability. Variables from the Wisconsin Card Sort Test (WCST) and the Stroop Color and Word Test (SCWT) measured susceptibility to interference. A monitoring task applied to a math aptitude test was used …

The ongoing discourse about meanings and impacts of feminism is a dynamic process of ideas influencing ideas. The process directs the course of the development of feminist theory. Most of the discourse is directed at women by women, but many men have also contributed to the dialectic. This study is an examination of those contributions by men as well as an attempt to understand the impact they have on the women's movement.

Marital Adjustment Across The Transition To Parenthood: The Role Of Communication And Personality, Brandon Mathew Larson

Past research on the transition to parenthood has consistently found that this life phase results in many changes in a couple's marital relationship, specifically declines in couples' marital adjustment. This study was designed to investigate the relationship between constructive communication, personality traits, and spouses' marital adjustment during the transition to parenthood; Participants were 70 married couples expecting their first child. Self-report measures were administered to all participants during the third trimester of pregnancy, three months postpartum, and nine months postpartum; Results showed that marital adjustment significantly declined during the transition to parenthood.
