An Evaluation Of Gastrointestinal Parasites In The Mixed Breed/Pure Breed Pound Dog Population Of East Baton Rouge Parish, Stalanda L. Bradford

Electronic Dissertations and Theses

ABSTRACT An evaluation of gastrointestinal parasites was performed on mixed breed and pure breed pound dogs of East Baton Rouge Parish. Fecal samples were analyzed by the Modified Sheather's Sugar Floatation Technique. Of the 54 canine specimens, 55.6% were female and 44.4% were males. Overall, 19 of the 54 (35.19%) canines were infected. The male canines had the higher infectious condition of the two genders, and the crossbred canines had the higher infectious condition of the two breeds. Also, hookworms were the most prevalent gastrointestinal parasites found within this population.

Investigation Of The Determinants Of African Savanna Vegetation Distribution: A Case Study From The Lower Omo Basin, Ethiopia, Catherine A. Schloeder May 1999

Investigation Of The Determinants Of African Savanna Vegetation Distribution: A Case Study From The Lower Omo Basin, Ethiopia, Catherine A. Schloeder

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Organization has little information on the extent and ecological determinants of plant species composition and distribution in Omo National Park. Elsewhere, the determinants of African savanna vegetation dynamics have been the focus of numerous investigations, yet our understanding of the hierarchical nature and relative importance of any relationships remains very general. As well, our ability to derive predictions about vegetation responses is limited to extreme generalizations. African savanna landscape ecotones have received even less attention than most landscapes. In this dissertation, I test hypotheses about plant species distribution-determinant relationships in Omo National Park, a park that …

Betaine As Partial Replacement Of Dl-Methionine Or Methionine Hydroxy Analogue In Broiler And Layer Diets, Celina Donna Querubin Bantoc May 1999

Betaine As Partial Replacement Of Dl-Methionine Or Methionine Hydroxy Analogue In Broiler And Layer Diets, Celina Donna Querubin Bantoc

Graduate Student's Output

Two experiments were conducted to determine the effect of betaine as partial replacement of dl-methionine (DLM) and methionine hydroxy analogue (MHA) on the performance of broilers and layers. In experiment 1, forty-five (45) individually caged 24-week old pullets were randomly assigned to five treatments following a completely randomized design (CRD). RAch treatment was replicated 9 times with one pullet per replicate. In experiment 2, three hundred (300) day-old broiler chicks were randomly distributed to five dietary treatments following a completely randomized design_ Each treatment was replicated six timOes with 10 birds per replicate. In the layer experiment, pullets fed methionine …

Factors That Affect African-American Enrollment In Urban Agricultural Degree Programs In The Commonwealth Of Virginia, Thomas Earl Tracy Apr 1999

Factors That Affect African-American Enrollment In Urban Agricultural Degree Programs In The Commonwealth Of Virginia, Thomas Earl Tracy

Theses and Dissertations in Urban Services - Urban Education

The purpose of this study was to determine reasons why few African Americans are in leadership positions in the urban agriculture industry. The lack of leaders will probably continue because there is a dearth of African Americans enrolled in agriculture programs at colleges and universities in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Six research questions guided the study in its endeavor to determine perceptions about the urban agriculture industry. Data were collected through surveys and interviews. A background questionnaire, developed by the researcher collected data on age, academic interests, urban background, exposure to agriculture occupations, and factors that affected selection of college …

The Relationship Between Ohio River Bass Tournament Success Rates, Forage Fish Abundance And Environmental Conditions, Jeffrey V. Ginger Jan 1999

The Relationship Between Ohio River Bass Tournament Success Rates, Forage Fish Abundance And Environmental Conditions, Jeffrey V. Ginger

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

Due to increasing pressure from Ohio River bass anglers with regard to decreasing catch rates in 1981,1990, and 1997, the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WVDNR) initiated a study of black bass populations. The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO), in conjunction with state and Federal agencies, has collected population data on Ohio River fishes at lock chambers and has measured various water quality parameters since 1957. That data coupled with Ohio River bass tournament data collected by the DNR since 1975 and other fishery data sets provided a historic look into the variability of angler success. These …

Effect Of The Partial Substitution Of A Commercial Feed For Corn Meal On Growth Performance Of Chickens, Óscar Amilcar García Portillo Jan 1999

Effect Of The Partial Substitution Of A Commercial Feed For Corn Meal On Growth Performance Of Chickens, Óscar Amilcar García Portillo

Theses and Dissertations

Nutrition is a primary human need. Families often will raise their own animals to meet these nutritional needs. However, high feed costs can severely limit the viability of these small family enterprises. This study addressed ways to improve poultry production as a means for families to ameliorate their diets and increase income. Research was conducted at the Centro Universitario de Oriente (CUNORI), Chiquimula, Guatemala. For this study, commercial poultry feed was supplemented with corn flour at three treatment levels and fed to poultry. Results indicated that partial substitution of commercial feed with corn flour at these three treatment levels did …

Obtaining And Sampling Of High Quality Energetic-Protein Mixtures (Pottages) Of Tuber-Cereal-Leguminous Bases In The Candelaria Area, Maria Lilian Maldonado Chavez Jan 1999

Obtaining And Sampling Of High Quality Energetic-Protein Mixtures (Pottages) Of Tuber-Cereal-Leguminous Bases In The Candelaria Area, Maria Lilian Maldonado Chavez

Theses and Dissertations

Specially designed foodstuffs destined for children of weaning age in the community of Candelaria were developed and evaluated biologically. These victuals had as bases combinations of tubers-cereals-legumes of high nutritional quality to be implemented in the home. Based on the availability of food and alimentary habits of the region, seven mixtures were formulated of triples and quadruples containing tubers (potato, oca, papaliza, and isano); cereals (rice, wheat, corn, and quinua); and legumes (tarwi, broad bean, and peanut). The cereal-leguminous proportion was maintained as one complement and the addition of the tubers. These mixes were subjected to biological tests, obtaining incremental …

The results showed that sugar cane juice (T3) obtained the best results in the consumption …

Validation Of The Small Scale Agricultural Production Model In The Community Of Tunshi-San Nicolas, Monica Alexandra Zuniga Donoso Jan 1999

Validation Of The Small Scale Agricultural Production Model In The Community Of Tunshi-San Nicolas, Monica Alexandra Zuniga Donoso

Theses and Dissertations

The model developed in the experimental environment inside the ESPOCH presented satisfactory results. Because of this, it is necessary that the model of production be validated in the farming communities with the purpose of making adjustments before recommending its massive production. In other words, a comparative study should be done on what happened in the experimental farm and what would happen in the community. This is reason why this investigation is titled Validation of the Small-Scale Agricultural Production Model in the Community of Tunshi-San Nicolás. The objectives of the investigation were as follows: Validate the small-scale agricultural production model of …
