An Investigation Of Some Of The Environmental And Edaphic Factors Effecting The Detoxification And Subsequent Degradation Of An Herbicide, Butachlor, Douglas D. Baird Dec 1971

An Investigation Of Some Of The Environmental And Edaphic Factors Effecting The Detoxification And Subsequent Degradation Of An Herbicide, Butachlor, Douglas D. Baird

Doctoral Dissertations

The influence of specific edaphic environmental factors on the detoxication and subsequent degradation of N-Butoxymethyl-2-chloro-2', 6' diethylacetanilide (butachlor) was evaluated under greenhouse and growth chamber conditions. Detoxication of butachlor, as measured by bioassay with barnyardgrass, was significantly enhanced by increasing temperatures to 32 C, making the soil alkaline, flooding, introducing relatively high levels of organic matter and by allowing exposure of more than four weeks. Total degradation of butachlor to C02 was enhanced also by high temperatures and length of exposure but was inhibited to a certain extent by flooding. Soil produced metabolites, of which three were soluble in …

Historical Developments And Demographic Patterns Of The Goshute Indians Of Ibapah, Utah, Wilford Lavon Day May 1971

Historical Developments And Demographic Patterns Of The Goshute Indians Of Ibapah, Utah, Wilford Lavon Day

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

There is a lack of written information and literature available on the group of Indians living in the Deep Creek area, known as Goshutes (Gosiute). This group of people is a distinct community with definite identity, problems, needs, and objectives. They are located in Western Utah and Eastern Nevada in Tooele and Juab Counties in Utah and white Pin County in Nevada. The reservation land area includes 111,000 acres.

The following report has been prepared as a study to aid those interested in historical or demographic information of these people and for agencies or individuals intending to become involved in …

A Study Of Factor Input Services In Cache County, Utah, 1969, Terry N. Peterson May 1971

A Study Of Factor Input Services In Cache County, Utah, 1969, Terry N. Peterson

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

A study was made to analyze the extent o f factor input service s in Cache County, Utah, in 1969.

Fertilizer, feed and machinery dealers we re interviewed to obtain the extent of the services which they provided to farmers in Cache County. One machinery dealer provided a service in the form of a rental program while all others provided none. Fertilizer dealers provided spreaders while feed dealers provided only a delivery service.

The Farm Service Division of the Amalgamated Sugar Company was examined as a case study. Budgets for different sizes of beet growers were formulated and compared to …

Economic Rent Values For Pheasant Hunting In Utah, Braulio Rodriguez V. May 1971

Economic Rent Values For Pheasant Hunting In Utah, Braulio Rodriguez V.

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

A conceptual model relating recreation resource values to the concept of economic rent was developed. The model argues that recreation sites possess both quality and location characteristics which serve as rent producing agents. Sites of better quality extract economic rents relative to those of lesser quality while those located most advantageously to user origins earn location rents relative to those more distantly located. The economic rent values are expressed by the differential use costs and recreationist activity associated with individual site usage.

A methodological procedure was developed which generates estimates of total rent values for a given site. The procedure …

Estimating Agricultural Production Functions From Experimental Data For Different Crops In Relation To Irrigation, Fertilization And Soil Management In Northern Utah, Subramaniuam Swami Nathan May 1971

Estimating Agricultural Production Functions From Experimental Data For Different Crops In Relation To Irrigation, Fertilization And Soil Management In Northern Utah, Subramaniuam Swami Nathan

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Estimates of agricultural production functions from experimental data for four different crops in relation to six variable inputs are calculated by this study. There are four basic sections in the study. The first section covers the review of production function concepts and the procedures and problems that specifically pertain to this study. Also the importance of joint economic-agronomic research efforts, methodologies and applications of agricultural production functions are cited.

The second section includes the presentation data and postulated functional relationships in estimating production functions. Model building programs are used in developing three dimensional figures, which aid in the selection of …

Market Structure Analysis Of Fertilizer Distribution In Utah, John C. Welty May 1971

Market Structure Analysis Of Fertilizer Distribution In Utah, John C. Welty

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The purpose of this paper was to ascertain the contribution of various structural variables to a growing, efficient system of fertilizer distribution in the state of Utah. A questionnaire to survey the fertilizer distributors was used as a source of data. Information was obtained about structural changes in a five-year period, 1965 to 1970. A multiple regression program was used to synthesize these data to determine which variables were most significant and how much they contributed to an increase in total value of fertilizer sales. While empirical data were obtained only for structural dimensions of the industry, marketing theory was …

Effects Of Soil Fumigations With Telone And Nemagon On Physio-Chemical And Ultrastructural Changes In Carrot Roots And Sweet Corn Seeds, Maureen Mei-Chu Chen May 1971

Effects Of Soil Fumigations With Telone And Nemagon On Physio-Chemical And Ultrastructural Changes In Carrot Roots And Sweet Corn Seeds, Maureen Mei-Chu Chen

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Carrots (Daucus carota L. cv. Royal Chantenay) and sweet corn (Zea mays L. cv. Iochief) were grown on the Utah State University's Greenville farm in 1969 and 1970. The soil was fumigated with Telone (a mixture of 1, 3-dichloropropene and other chlorinated hydrocarbons) at the rates of 10, 20, and 30 gal/acre and Nemagon (1, 2-dibromo-3-chloropropane) at the rates of 1, 2, and 3 gal/acre one week before planting. Samples of uniformly mature carrot roots were taken for the studies of total carotenes, β-carotene, total and reducing sugars, respiration, and ultrastructural changes; and those of sweet corn seeds for the …

An Ecological Study Of Coliform Bacteria Associated With Vaccinium Corymbosum, Harry C. Bittenbender Jan 1971

An Ecological Study Of Coliform Bacteria Associated With Vaccinium Corymbosum, Harry C. Bittenbender

Honors Theses

Recent research has shown that there are coliform populations associated with the cultivated high bush blueberry, Vaccinium corynbosum. This study is aimed at determining the ecology of these colofirms, as they are related to blueberry production from the farm to the warehouse. Tests will be made to identify the Salmonella group, those associated with "food poisoning." Total bacterial coliform counts will also be made. This paper is primarily an ecological study of the coliforms found on blueberry farms near Grand Junction, though fruit samples were taken from all warehouses of the M.B.G.A.
