Land tenure problems throughout the Middle East and most of the underdeveloped countries of the world are considered by competent international organizations and many students of world problems as one of the greatest contributing forces to social unrest and a barrier to economic development.
When the United Nations' General Assembly at its fifth session in 1950, had under discussion the problem of land reform in many underdeveloped countries, the consensus of opinions were that the conditions affecting land reform reduced agricultural productivity and were a major cause of low standards of living for the populations of those countries.
