Cultural Warrant And Hospitality In Animation Film Abstracting, Admeire Sundström

In the Brazilian context, we lack a methodology for abstracting audiovisual documents. To address this, several authors have proposed different approaches. As an additional contribution, this research proposes cultural warrant and hospitality as a principle that could be considered during the abstracting of animation. Domain analysis was used as a method, and from the analyzed animation institutions we identified the discursive community and the institutional proposals. From the literature reviewed, the existing approach for abstracting was identified and named here as the document dimension. Comics Plus offers subscribers a digital library of comics, manga, and graphic novels licensed from more than 100 different publishers, including such indie gems as IDW, Boom Studios, Dark Horse, and Kodansha Comics. Its all-access package includes more than 20,000 titles, about 14,000 of which are appropriate for K-12 readers. Granular title control gives admins the power to customize Comics Plus to suit the readers they serve. But some titles aren’t included at all, namely the best-selling books of the industry’s top players. Comics Plus may someday persuade these publishers––Marvel, DC, Image, and VIZ Media––to play ball. The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). As of Fall 2019 The Anchor has moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to explore various concepts of time and temporal dimensions in the context of everyday reading experiences.

Design/methodology/approach

The study uses theoretical bricolage that puts existing reading research into conversation with theories of time and temporalities.

Findings

Three registers of time in reading are put forward: (1) libraries and books as places that readers return to again and again over time, (2) temporalized reading bodies and (3) everyday reading as a temporalized practice.

Research limitations/implications

Using lenses of time and temporalities, everyday reading is shown to be central to ways of being in time. …

This article outlines the challenges and successes of a library outreach team at a small New England college campus during the COVID-19 pandemic. In March of 2020, the highly residential College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, sent almost all students home to continue their classes online—yet no online classes had ever been taught at the college before. For the first time ever, the college’s libraries were in the position to rebuild all promotional communications and activities from scratch—pivoting from a largely in-person setting to an entirely virtual setting. The onslaught of the pandemic in 2020 has required us all to rework how we approach instruction. This presentation will focus on how a liaison librarian leveraged their growing knowledge of their university’s learning management system (LMS) to design active-learning information literacy modules for several humanities courses. Faculty at this large state university were expected to take a 4-week intensive course on “mastering online teaching,” offered monthly beginning in spring 2020 by the campus teaching and learning center. This study examines factors that influence people’s decision to adopt a self-care therapy chatbot utilizing the uses and gratification theory, self-efficacy, and response efficacy frameworks. Existing literature has shown a large gap between supply and demand of mental health services as well as major barriers that prevent people from seeking services. Therapy chatbots offer the potential to address the gap and the barriers. This research used Woebot, a widely used and clinical evaluated therapy bot, and examined the influence of 6 uses and obtained gratification variables, two self-efficacy scales, and response efficacy on intentions of use. The California State University Archives and Archivists’ Roundtable is a Community of Practice consisting of archivists that meet regularly online, and annually in person. Communities grow from shared interests, resources, concerns, or endeavors. Communities of practice can grow out of a need for connecting with other people who share the same issues, learning environment, or passions. In this article we describe how the CSUAAR group was founded, how it has evolved, and offers a potential model for other archivists to identify, create, and maintain a community of practice through common needs or interest.

This presentation discusses the qualitative research methodology narrative inquiry. It then presents some of the background theory to Coralie McCormack's storying stories approach to narrative analysis of interview transcripts. Finally, the speaker uses examples from her own research using storying stories to reflect on the relationship that power has to the particular methodology and methods discussed in the presentation. This presentation was given as part of the 2021 Institute for Research Design in Librarianship's (IRDL) Speaker Series: Thinking Critically about Research and Power.

LGBT+ (gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender, also called queer) people have always existed. The history of queer people has been repressed and destroyed. As culture changes and becomes more accepting of these identities, queer people are living more openly, and history is being well recorded. Museums are institutions that are responsible for representing and perpetuating cultural views, and therefore have a responsibility to include a diverse variety of people. In the traditional health information landscape, patriarchal knowledge practices of expertise, neutrality, objectivity, and ownership are held as the standard. This paper will explore zines as feminist mental health resources that embody radical care and subvert these knowledge practices. There are many personal zines on the topic of mental health, ranging from outlining self care strategies for overall mental wellness to deeper discussions of serious mental illness (trauma, mood disorders, personality disorders, etc). This report details the tenth year of operation for PDXScholar, Portland State University's institutional repository. The report covers the period between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020.

The 2020 report highlights the exponential growth of PDXScholar with almost 2.1 million (2,094,796) full text downloads. This is an increase of approximately 800,000 downloads from 2019, representing a 62% increase.

The report also focuses on our work to bring online new collections and to highlight research impacting our communities, academics, and personal lives.

Developing A University Children’S Collection For Pre-Service Teachers Using Placid, Jennifer Hill

Not all academic librarians who oversee children’s collections for pre-service teachers have backgrounds in K-12 education. To develop a robust collection, the St. Cloud State University library reached out to an assistant professor in the Department of Teacher Development to help weed their children’s literature collection and recommend new titles because of their dual expertise with both libraries and schools. This commentary paper will outline the development of a children’s collection for pre-service teachers from the perspective of a faculty member with school library media expertise using an acronym they have deemed as PLACID: Pleasure, Levels, Awards, Curriculum, Illustrations, Diversity.

The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine the impact a Teacher Librarian has on students’ self-selection strategies and the broader impact on a culture of reading in a school building. Data was collected from 263 students in middle school (grades 5-8) resulting in 1322 reponses over eight weeks. Research Question 1 asked, What appeal strategies do students use when selecting an independent reading book? “You liked the author or it is in a series” was the number one book selection approach used with 21.6% of the responses indicating this approach when selecting a book. The least helpful book …
