Prince Myshkin As A Tragic Interpretation Of Don Quixote, Slav N. Gratchev Phd
Prince Myshkin As A Tragic Interpretation Of Don Quixote, Slav N. Gratchev Phd
Dr. Slav N. Gratchev
Surprisingly, although virtually no one doubts Dostoevsky’s profound and direct indebtedness to Cervantes, and the Quixote–Myshkin identity is obvious, no one has ever mentioned or analyzed how Myshkin, the character more dialogically elaborate and versatile, turned out to be more limited in literary expressivity than his more “monological” counterpart. The focus on this essay is the question of what weakened the realness of Dostoevsky’s favorite hero, and what negatively affected his literary answerability.
Spiritual Discipline And Psychological Dream-Work: Some Distinctions, Philip Novak
Spiritual Discipline And Psychological Dream-Work: Some Distinctions, Philip Novak
Philip Novak
"The world's great religious traditions and spiritualities commonly contain two essential elements. The first doctrine, a distinction between the Real and the unreal; the second is method, a way for human consciousness to concentrate upon the Real. 'Prayer' and 'yoga' are probably the two most inclusive generic terms coming under what I here designate as method. they are ways that human beings, in their living consciousness, endeavor to lessen the existential 'distance' between themselves and ultimate Reality. For the purpose of this essay, let us group those psychotransformative strategies known to religious traditions under the common heading of 'contemplative discipline.''' …

Flow And Attitude Toward The Website On The Evaluation Of Products Present By Means Of Virtual Reality: A Conceptual Model, Eva Tomaseti, Salvador Ruiz De Maya, Nina Reynolds

The website represents the future of a company's business communications on the Internet, since it allows supplying large amount of information as well as creating virtual experiences with the product. In this context, virtual reality constitutes a technology which provides users with realistic and interactive virtual environments. In this paper, based on the five groups of models, we analyze the effect of virtual reality presentations, by means of interactivity and richness, on flow and attitude toward the website, and the subsequent effect of those variables on online product evaluation.

In May 2007 the headline on the front page of the Macarthur Chronicle screamed 'Home Invasion'. The report warned that The rural landscape surrounding Camden will be engulfed by suburbia when the construction starts on the Oran Park and Turner Rd precincts early next year. More than 30,000 will occupy 11,500 homes in the two precincts, which form part of the South West Growth Centre. The Wii Remote As An Input Device For 3d Interaction In Immersive Head-Mounted Display Virtual Reality, Yang-Wai Chow
Dr Yang-Wai Chow
There has been a lot of interest regarding the possibilities that the motion sensing technology in the Wii Remote can offer. This study investigates the feasibility of using the Wii Remote for 3D interaction in immersive Head-Mounted Display (HMD) virtual reality. Normal usage of the Wii Remote requires that the controller to be pointed in a certain direction, typically towards the display. The requirements of an input device for interaction in immersive HMD virtual reality differ from that of normal display systems, in that the user should ideally be able to turn around in the virtual environment. A number of …

The Block was Australia's hit TV show of 2003. Its viewing audience regularly topped the 2 million mark, easily surpassing all the other 'lifestyle' shows - DIY Rescue, Burke's Backyard, Backyard Blitz, Changing Rooms, Better Homes and Gardens , Location Location, Auction Squad, Hot Auctions , the list is practically endless. Australian made TV drama has meanwhile delivered its worst ratings performance in years, virtually guaranteeing The Block will not only be repeated but cloned as well. David Castran, the managing director of Audience Development Australia, explains it this way: "recent world turmoil has brought people closer to home to …

Enjoying 'Reality Tv', Ian Buchanan

Big Brother, Boot Camp, Castaway, Shipwrecked, and the oh-so-glamorous Survivor, how much 'Reality TV' can we stand? More to the point, why do we want any of it? In other words, why do any of these shows even exist, what fantasy need do they fulfil? The temptation to invoke 'voyeurism' at this point is almost irresistible and is to be resisted for precisely that reason; the ease with which it seems to answer the questions begged by 'Reality TV' should be sufficient to alert us that it is what de Certeau calls a 'black sun', that is, something which however …
Italian Sixteenth-Century Writing Books And The Scribal Reality Of Verona, Richard Clement
Italian Sixteenth-Century Writing Books And The Scribal Reality Of Verona, Richard Clement
Richard W. Clement
The sixteenth-century copybooks of the Italian writing masters have long been considered to be reflections of the contemporary scribal condition. The impression one gains from reading the works of Arrighi, Taglienti, Palatino, and Cresci, among others, is that cancellaresca was the dominant notarial script of the first half of the century, that cancellaresca formata, developed by Palatino at mid-century, supplanted it, and that Cresci's cancellaresca corsiva reigned supreme at the end. In fact, if we consider the manuscript evidence, specifically the Rosenthal Collection of North Italian Documents at the University of Chicago, we find a very different reality. In sixteenth-century …
The Desert Of The Real: Christianity, Buddhism & Baudrillard In The Matrix Films And Popular Culture, James F. Mcgrath
The Desert Of The Real: Christianity, Buddhism & Baudrillard In The Matrix Films And Popular Culture, James F. Mcgrath
James F. McGrath
The movie The Matrix and its sequels draw explicitly on imagery from a number of sources, including in particular Buddhism, Christianity, and the writings of Jean Baudrillard. A perspective is offered on the perennial philosophical question ‘What is real?’, using language and symbols drawn from three seemingly incompatible world views. In doing so, these movies provide us with an insight into the way popular culture makes eclectic use of various streams of thought to fashion a new reality that is not unrelated to, and yet is nonetheless distinct from, its religious and philosophical undercurrents and underpinnings.
