The purpose of this research was to investigate how Maine elementary schools decide when students may or may not go outdoors for physical education (PE) classes and recess based on weather conditions, and how those decisions impact the actual frequency that students are kept indoors. This topic is important from both education and public health perspectives because previous research has shown that exercise in outdoor settings has specific benefits compared to that done indoors. PE classes and recess in school provide all children with access to physical activity.

With urbanization on the rise, policymakers cannot ignore urban conflicts. In the aftermath of the Cold War, several scholars were of the opinion that primitive modes of fighting, such as close combat, would cease to be used. This thesis explores the Government of Canada’s legislative response to the Carter v. Canada (Attorney General) ruling. More specifically, this thesis analyzes the major issues that afflicted Bill C-14, or An Act to amend the Criminal Code and to make related amendments to other Acts (medical assistance in dying), as it progressed through the House of Commons and the Senate.
