Сharacteristics Mineral Resource Base Of Madagascar, A. E. Vorobyev, K. A. Vorobyov, S.A. Ndriambanuna, L.E. Schesnyak

Gorniy vestnik Uzbekistana

The main characteristics of the mineral resource base of Madagascar with details of coal, iron ore, non-ferrous metals, uranium, rare metals and gold are considered. In the gold-ore mineral base of Madagascar, coastal placers are of particular potential interest. Foreign mining companies and local crafts are described. The transition to the development of coastal gold placers is proposed

Water Resources International Development: What On Earth Are We Doing?, Patrick Ray Nov 2020

Water Resources International Development: What On Earth Are We Doing?, Patrick Ray

All ECSTATIC Materials

Large agencies such as the World Bank, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, the United Nations, regional development banks (such as the Asian Development Bank), and philanthropic organizations (such as the Rockefeller Foundation) are actively engaged in water resources development in low-income countries. Why? And what metrics do they use to decide if the investments of hundreds of millions or billions of dollars in water infrastructure projects are justified? And what accommodations do they tend to make for risks such as climate change? And what attention do they tend to give to questions of equity? I probably have no idea. But I’ve …

Understanding Slo 22 - Lifelong Learning, Madeleine Zetterquist Nov 2020

Understanding Slo 22 - Lifelong Learning, Madeleine Zetterquist

Construction Management

This paper is an informative overview of the student learning objective SLO 22, lifelong learning, in relation to the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo Construction Management Department. The student learning objective of lifelong learning is an existing university objective for Cal Poly, however, recently has also become a department specific objective for Construction Management. This senior project explores what lifelong learning means to the Construction Management department. Further, the paper explores how the current outcomes of this objective may improve to more closely embody the department mission. These findings will allow for emphasis on lifelong learning in order …

Improving The Design Quality Of Housing Buildings, Ehab Nasr Elden Ahmed Aug 2020

Improving The Design Quality Of Housing Buildings, Ehab Nasr Elden Ahmed

Architecture and Planning Journal (APJ)

Design quality is essential to improve the standards of living and is progressively being accepted as critical to successful new housing developments. A better design quality provides attractive and sensitively planned homes that form communities, and assists in creating a healthier and advanced fellowship. As new housing growth in Egypt has missed reaching the universal rules and guidelines of design quality, this research reviews several experiences of foreign offices and governmental programs that deal with amending the design character of housing buildings. Using these Guidelines enables commissioning high performance housing facilities that improve the general standards of a better design …

Development Of A Reference Design For A Cyber-Physical System, Nicholas Paul Blair Jul 2020

Development Of A Reference Design For A Cyber-Physical System, Nicholas Paul Blair

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this thesis is to develop a reference design to assist in the selection of security practices in power electronics design. A prototype will be developed from this reference design for evaluation. This evaluation will include a brief cost/benefit analysis to gauge the efficacy of implementing each layer of security throughout the power electronics design process. This thesis will also describe the obstacles and effectiveness of integrating a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) into a cyber-hardened grid-connected device. The TPM device is a secured crypto processor that assists in generating, storing, and restricting the use of cryptographic keys. The …

Providing Sustainable Power Through Renewable Energy For Developing Communities In Central America, Elizabeth Topping May 2020

Providing Sustainable Power Through Renewable Energy For Developing Communities In Central America, Elizabeth Topping

Biological and Agricultural Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses

Rural electrification through an expansion of the power grid into remote villages in Central America is a development that is still years away. Using renewable energy technology, access to electricity is available even in the most remote areas of the world. These individual power grids are also called “microgrids.” Creating microgrids in rural areas provides the people living there with access to power they did not have before. With this newfound access to power, these communities can expand their access to education, using computers or mobile devices. They can power lights, refrigerators, and other devices to continue development.

The design …

A Micro-Optic Stalk (Muos) System To Model The Collective Migration Of Retinal Neuroblasts, Stephanie Zhang, Miles Markey, Caroline D. Pena, Tadmiri Venkatesh, Maribel Vasquez Mar 2020

A Micro-Optic Stalk (Muos) System To Model The Collective Migration Of Retinal Neuroblasts, Stephanie Zhang, Miles Markey, Caroline D. Pena, Tadmiri Venkatesh, Maribel Vasquez

Publications and Research

Contemporary regenerative therapies have introduced stem-like cells to replace damaged neurons in the visual system by recapitulating critical processes of eye development. The collective migration of neural stem cells is fundamental to retinogenesis and has been exceptionally well-studied using the fruit fly model of Drosophila Melanogaster. However, the migratory behavior of its retinal neuroblasts (RNBs) has been surprisingly understudied, despite being critical to retinal development in this invertebrate model. The current project developed a new microfluidic system to examine the collective migration of RNBs extracted from the developing visual system of Drosophila as a model for the collective motile processes …

Neca Ghana Project, Michael T. Klee Mar 2020

Neca Ghana Project, Michael T. Klee

Construction Management

Cal Poly’s motto is, “Learn by Doing" and for Cal Poly’s NECA Chapter, this isn’t simply a motto, but a directive for proactive change. For my senior project I will be leading the Cal Poly NECA chapter in the design, pre- fabrication and construction of a 5-7kw solar array, community center, ice production room and technology room in the remote fishing village of Agbokpa, Ghana. The solar array will power multiple industrial DC freezers, high efficiency LED lighting and charging stations while additionally powering water filtration and irrigation systems. Like many other fishing villages around the world, Agbokpa has no …
