INTRODUCTION: Several previous studies have documented a relationship between sleep problems and suicide. However, this association has not been explored specifically among opioid users. Given that studies have suggested that opioids can interrupt sleep and that opioid users are more likely to attempt suicide than non-users, it is important to further investigate the association between sleep disturbance and suicidal ideation, planning, and attempts among opioid abusers.

Seeking Safety is an evidence-based manualized group counseling intervention designed to address the intersection of trauma and addiction. Trauma-sensitive yoga practice has been shown to be effective as an adjunct treatment in addictions. This qualitative utilization-focused program evaluation analyzed the effectiveness of enhancing Seeking Safety with a trauma-sensitive yoga practice integrated into the Seeking Safety group intervention. The author utilized archival interviews, focus groups and documents collected from a community mental health agency. Data included client interviews, key informant interviews, and demographics. Massively multiplayer online games (MMOGs) are a popular type of online video game. While these games and their players have been studied previously, there is gap in the literature that examines the relationship between one’s motivation to play MMOGs and loneliness, depression, and problematic use. For this study, 440 players of World of Warcraft (WoW), a popular MMOG, completed a demographics questionnaire and four measures, including Williams, Yee, & Caplan’s (2008) motivation measure, Peter’s & Malesky’s (2008) World of Warcraft-specific Problematic Usage-Engagement Questionnaire, UCLA’s Loneliness scale, and The Depression Anxiety Stress Scales. This study used an ecological perspective to identify pathological gambling (PG) risk and protective factors, nonclinical resources, and prevention strategies based on the perceptions of Georgia stakeholders. With an ecological perspective, human behavior is perceived as an outcome of the interaction between the individual and various factors in their social environment. The ecological perspective is especially suitable for examining the higher PG prevalence among ethnic minority groups since these populations have been documented as encountering greater exposure to PG social and environmental risk factors (Smedley & Syme, 2000). Research has demonstrated that problem gambling is associated with substance and alcohol abuse (Petry, Stinson, & Grant, 2005), participation in criminal activities (McCorkle, 2002; Meyer & Stadler, 1999), and involvement in the criminal justice system (NORC, 1999). This study assessed problem gambling and its relation to crime and substance use within a population in which these risk factors are compounded: Adults mandated to participate in drug and DUI courts. Results indicate that the prevalence and severity of problem gambling may be higher within this population than any other.
