The Industrial Revolution 4.0, which makes the internet its backbone, has accelerated the process due to the Covid-19 pandemic which forced citizens to shift all their activities to the digital world, including the involvement of citizens in responding to public discourse. Citizens' public discourses that previously took place in real public spaces have now shifted to digital spaces, one of which is social media. To bridge these changes, a conceptualization of civic engagement is needed through a digital platform. The online citizen involvement was later referred to as online civic engagement, namely civic engagement activities specifically carried out by digital …

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this dissertation is to address the research gap regarding social media platforms having a possible influence when provoking experiences of internal (i.e., emotions/feelings and cognitions) and/or external (i.e., behaviors) forms of aggression and problematic internet use in their online community members. A brief examination of the aggression-frustration hypothesis will construct a foundational theoretical framework of the emotional and behavioral processes that may occur in users while utilizing their preferred social media platform. Recent peer- reviewed literature will be examined to highlight the existing research gap. The present study will attempt to explore possible explanations behind users’ motives …

There is even less research available that describes the extent to which the visual structure of advertisements, such as chosen colors, imagery, text, and duration impacts ad performance. Hate-Clipper: Multimodal Hateful Meme Classification Based On Cross-Modal Interaction Of Clip Features, Gokul Karthik Kumar, Karthik Nandakumar
Computer Vision Faculty Publications
Hateful memes are a growing menace on social media. While the image and its corresponding text in a meme are related, they do not necessarily convey the same meaning when viewed individually. Hence, detecting hateful memes requires careful consideration of both visual and textual information. Multimodal pretraining can be beneficial for this task because it effectively captures the relationship between the image and the text by representing them in a similar feature space. Furthermore, it is essential to model the interactions between the image and text features through intermediate fusion. Most existing methods either employ multimodal pre-training or intermediate fusion, …

Beware What You Google: Fourth Amendment Constitutionality Of Keyword Warrants, Chelsa Camille Edano
Beware What You Google: Fourth Amendment Constitutionality Of Keyword Warrants, Chelsa Camille Edano
Washington Law Review
Many Americans have potentially had their privacy rights invaded through invisible, widespread police searches. In recent years, local and federal governments have compelled Google and other search engine companies to produce the personal information of users who have conducted a search query related to a crime. By using keyword warrants, the government can conduct a dragnet search for suspects, imposing suspicion on users and exposing their personal information. The keyword warrant is a symptom of the erosion of the Fourth Amendment protection against suspicionless searches. Not only is scholarship scarce on keyword warrants, but also instances of these warrants are …

A Strategic Social Media Marketing Plan To Launch A New Tabletop Role-Playing Game, Josiah Mork
Senior Honors Theses
The boardgame industry is thriving through independent (“indie”) publishers crowdfunding on platforms such as Kickstarter. However, the tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) fanbase is resistant to digital media. Indie publishers are then in a dilemma. They lack money to gather supporters through traditional media and cannot crowdfund the money without supporters.
Free social media platforms are natural solutions, if indie creators can circumnavigate fans’ reluctance to engage digital media. Therefore, a strategic social media plan is required to market new TTRPGs successfully. By compiling research on industry and audience, this thesis proposes key observations for indie TTRPG publishers and an example …
