Transformation Of The Dental Faculty To Promote Changes In Dental Educaiton, Clark A. Dana
Theses and Dissertations
This work introduces a series of papers developed to explore the case for change in dental education. Three issues facing dental education are (a) the challenging financial environment of higher education, making dental schools very expensive and tuition-intensive for universities to operate and producing high debt levels for students, which limits access to education and restricts career choices; (b) the profession's apparent loss of vision for taking care of the oral health needs of all components of society and the resultant potential for marginalization of dentistry as a specialized health care service available only to the affluent; and (c) the …

We evaluated an infiltration anesthesia simulation model (IAM) and a conduction anesthesia simulation model (CAM) on the perception of learning by Mexican dental students. Our aim was to compare the perception of learning by dental students trained with two distinct dental anesthesia simulation model (DASM) with dental students who were not trained with a DASM. 3 groups participated in the study: G1 (N=12 students) learned to block the mental nerve (BMN) by participating in a theoretical lecture (stage 1) and a clinical demonstration (stage 2); G2 (N=12 students) learned the BMN by participating in the stage 1, stage 2, and …

Endodontic Residents: Factors Influencing The Decision To Become A Dental Educator, Lauren E. Kuhn
MUSC Theses and Dissertations
Significance and Introduction: Dental schools in the United States are faced with a shortage of faculty. Endodontic residencies and pre-doctoral clinics are not immune to the faculty scarcity. The purpose of this study was to assess factors that influence endodontic residents’ decisions on whether to pursue a career as a dental educator. This information may be used to inform future recruitment and retention efforts for endodontic faculty. Materials and Methods: All United States American Association of Endodontists (AAE) members designated as “resident members” (525) were sent an electronic survey. The survey included demographic data, and factors impacting their career decisions. …
