A Sociological Study Of Atheism And Naturalism As Minority Identities In Appalachia., Kelly E. Church-Hearl
A Sociological Study Of Atheism And Naturalism As Minority Identities In Appalachia., Kelly E. Church-Hearl
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This qualitative study aims to provide a sociological understanding of people who hold minority beliefs about spirituality and religion and to improve our sociological and social-psychological understanding of a-religious and alternatively religious people. Data were collected through indepth interviews with 10 atheist and 11 naturalist respondents. The study examines the religious histories of the respondents, how they left mainstream religion, how they adopted a minority identity with regard to religion/spirituality, and their personal experiences living in a predominately Christian area. I hypothesized that atheists and naturalists would hold minority identities and feel subordinated or oppressed by the dominant group: Christians. …
Hope For The Holidays, Buffalo Gay Men's Chorus
Hope For The Holidays, Buffalo Gay Men's Chorus
Programs
I believe Hope for the Holidays is the most appropriate topic for us to consider in these trying times. With so many changes taking place affecting us all, the time for examining one's inner self is greater than ever before. Perhaps the market conditions are a necessary evil, probably long overdue, forcing us to open our eyes to what really matters. Whichever way we choose to look at it, change is required.
A Quantitative Review And Analysis Of The Constructs Underlying Assessment Center Ratings: What Are We Measuring?, John P. Meriac
A Quantitative Review And Analysis Of The Constructs Underlying Assessment Center Ratings: What Are We Measuring?, John P. Meriac
Doctoral Dissertations
The overarching goal of this study was to clarify what constructs are being measured by assessment centers (ACs). ACs have been used and studied for years, yet have measurement problems that generally center on the use of information at the dimension-level. However, a necessary step in examining this issue has been neglected: a proper delineation of what constructs ACs actually measure. In an attempt to address this issue, this study‟s primary purpose was to explore the factor structure of AC dimensions. Several a priori models from both the AC and job performance literature were examined as frameworks for explicating the …

An Assessment Of The Institutional Vision Of Catholic Colleges And Universities, Robert Abelman, Amy Dalessandro
An Assessment Of The Institutional Vision Of Catholic Colleges And Universities, Robert Abelman, Amy Dalessandro
Journal of Catholic Education
Institutional vision is a philosophical template”a concept of what, at its best, a college or university is like and the kinds of human beings that institution is attempting to cultivate. A content analysis of the institutional vision of a nation-wide sample of Catholic schools was performed and key linguistic components found to constitute a well conceived, viable, and easily diffused mission and vision were isolated. The prevalence of these components in comparison to other types of religious schools and secular four-year institutions is discussed. Findings suggest that Catholic schools are vision-driven institutions that communicate their priorities and defining characteristics by …

Putting The Pieces Together: The Puzzle Of Conflict Transformation, Janice Marie Johnson
Putting The Pieces Together: The Puzzle Of Conflict Transformation, Janice Marie Johnson
MALS Final Projects, 1995-2019
This Final Project seeks to investigate the evolving art of conflict transformation. Conflict transformation is presented via three modalities: a three-hour workshop on conflict resolution, a thirteen-session course, "Managing Conflict," including syllabus and facilitator' s guide, and a complete worship service. The service will be given before an audience in Fall 2008 at Skidmore College. Using these three modalities, the origins of conflict, the function of conflict transformation strategies, the issue of cultural competency, and the relationship to peacemaking are explored from the standpoint of a skilled practitioner in the field.

Are Tenant-Stockholders Entitled to a Charitable Contribution Deduction when a Cooperative Housing Corporation Donates a Preservation Easement?
Abstract
Most Tenant-Stockholders of cooperative housing corporations (“CHC”) view themselves as the owners of their apartments, a perception encouraged by the Internal Revenue Code (“Code”), which affords them those tax benefits most commonly associated with home ownership. This article explores the question of whether that perception is accurate with respect to the Code’s tax incentives designed to encourage preservation of historic homes. The Code encourages homeowners to protect their historic homes with preservation easements by allowing a charitable contribution deduction equal to the …

The Tractarians' Political Rhetoric, Robert Ellison
English Faculty Research
This article examines the political speaking and writing of John Keble, John Henry Newman, and other leading figures of the Oxford Movement. It argues that while they were essentially conservative in the pulpit, where they spoke as official representatives of the Established Church, they were more critical and outspoken in other works, where they enjoyed more of the freedom afforded to private citizens.
