From Teacher To Teller: How Applied Storytelling Informs Autobiographical Instruction., Peggy Rosann Kent
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis uses autobiographical inquiry to "re-member" how I came to understand that applied storytelling was a valid teaching tool in facilitating autobiographical expression in mature learners. It is an examination of how story sharing and story listening can transform a continuing education classroom into a learning community. Applied storytelling can help elders reframe their negative mental models about the value of their stories, memory, and mythology and create opportunities for positive story sharing experiences. I selected highlights of my journey that best represented my experience and use of applied storytelling techniques. Each chapter includes an exercise and reflection as …
The Role Of Inspiration In Scientific Scholarship And Discovery: Views Of Theistic Scientists, Kari Ann O'Grady
The Role Of Inspiration In Scientific Scholarship And Discovery: Views Of Theistic Scientists, Kari Ann O'Grady
Theses and Dissertations
This qualitative research study examined the ways those who identify themselves as theistic scientists and scholars experience inspiration, as defined as divine guidance or influence, in their scientific scholarship and discovery. It also explored participants' beliefs about how scientists and scholars can seek and prepare to receive inspiration in their work. Open-ended surveys of 450 participants from the behavioral and natural sciences and from a variety of religious backgrounds were analyzed for content themes in the areas of experiences with inspiration, preparing to receive inspiration, and further thoughts on inspiration in science. The themes extracted indicated that these scientists and …
Urban Images Of Solidarity: Fashioning Citizenship In Argentina, Regina A. Root
Urban Images Of Solidarity: Fashioning Citizenship In Argentina, Regina A. Root
Arts & Sciences Book Chapters
This book examines how the politics of dress has been incorporated in constructions of nationhood in both Asia and the Americas, and reveals how politicians and political regimes (including tribal, revolutionary, authoritarian, colonial, and democratic) manipulate sumptuary practices in order to create national identities, to legitimise hierarchies of power or to build personal political identities. In tackling these broad themes over two centuries, the editors and contributors grapple with gender politics; in particular, how men and women’s dress reflect their political and economic position in the nation-states.
This collection of pioneering essays – the first volume in the Sussex Library …
Navigating Religious Rights Of Teachers And Students: Establishment, Accommodation, Neutrality, Or Hostility?, Samuel J. Smith
Navigating Religious Rights Of Teachers And Students: Establishment, Accommodation, Neutrality, Or Hostility?, Samuel J. Smith
Christian Perspectives in Education
Despite the notion that First Amendment rights are established, valued, and respected in the United States, there continues to be confusion in public schools that leads to legal conflict over issues associated with freedoms of speech and expression, especially as they relate to religious issues. Navigating the religious rights of teachers and students can be a precarious undertaking, as administrators’ decisions regarding the expression of religious beliefs continue to be highlighted in the media and many times are resolved in the court system at great expense to school districts. The purpose of this article is to clarify religious rights issues …

This edition of the College of Wooster's student run newspaper was published on October 26 of 2007 and it is eight pages long. A blank white wall was found outside of Lowry when students arrived back from fall break. This wall was a project for students to be more aware of the power of words. The group Wooster Opposing the War held a small rally downtown last weekend. A meditation group on campus called Sitting practices Zen Buddhism concepts. The next exhibition on display in the College of Wooster Art Museum is opening on November 13, it is titled "Northeastern …

Women's Attitudes And Perceptions About Sexual Fantasy And How It Relates To Sexual Satisfaction In A Committed Relationship, Jillian Marie Weis
Theses, Dissertations, and Projects
This quantitative study was completed to explore how women's attitudes and perceptions regarding sexual fantasy are related to sexual satisfaction in a committed relationship. Are We Attracted To Romantic Partners Who Tend To Resemble Our Caregivers?, Rebecca Kohrman Kohrman
Are We Attracted To Romantic Partners Who Tend To Resemble Our Caregivers?, Rebecca Kohrman Kohrman
Theses, Dissertations, and Projects
This study was undertaken to explore the phenomenon of romantic attraction. It sought to explore the degree of which imago theory (Hendrix, 1988) may pertain to people's choices of romantic partners and asked the following research question: Are we attracted to romantic partners who tend to resemble our early caregivers? Twelve participants were interviewed as part of this qualitative study, which included three men and nine women. At the time of the study participants ranged in age from 20-57 years old and were all in a heterosexual relationship ranging from seven months to 21 years. The findings of this study …
