Unmanned aerial systems (UAS) carry no pilot on board, yet they still require live operators to handle critical functions such as mission planning and execution. Humans also interpret the sensor information provided by these platforms. This applies to all classes of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV's), including the smaller portable systems used for gathering real-time reconnaissance during military operations in urban terrain. Active oxygen control technique is a recently developed effective method for mitigating structural corrosions in liquid lead bismuth eutectic (LBE) systems. By carefully increasing the concentration of oxygen in liquid LBE, an iron and chrome based oxide film can be formed on the surfaces of the structural steels and thus successfully prevent the direct dissolution of the steel elements into the liquid alloy; The proper formation of oxide layers critically depends on the control of the oxygen concentration, so it is necessary to monitor the on-line concentration in LBE systems. The main focus of this thesis is to give a detailed description of techniques and methodology implemented for feature extraction and three-dimensional reconstruction. The algorithms were developed as part of a project whose main object is the graphical three-dimensional modeling of the gestures of a human hand. The project itself comprises several steps, namely, camera calibration, hand feature extraction, three-dimensional reconstruction, and computer graphics modeling of the hand. Experimental results of the feature extraction and three-dimensional reconstruction will also be presented.

Corporate investment in enterprise level IT systems has been characterised by high rates of failure. The paper presents a knowledge based perspective to examine how firms adopt and implement enterprise systems in order to better understand how organisations can achieve reliable outcomes from such investments. The case presented explores the key decision stages of a major ERP investment, focusing on the strategic reasoning behind each decision. Particular attention is directed to the relationship between adoption know-why and implementation know-how to assess whether managers have been mindful or mindless in their investment decisions.

Interleaved coding-modulation (ICM) is a recently proposed method for ultra-wideband impulse radio (UWB-IR) systems. ICM exploits the concept of chip interleaving, allowing to alleviate the problem of inter-symbol and inter-pulse interference commonly present in high data rate UWB-IR systems. In this paper, previous work on ICM is extended to scarcely populated multi-user scenarios. A novel design of a deterministic chip interleaver based on time-hopping hyperbolic congruence sequences is proposed. Furthermore, the main parameters of the random and hyperbolic interleavers are reviewed. This paper proposes a robust control methodology for piezoelectric actuation systems to track specified motion trajectories. This is motivated by the search for an effective control strategy to deal with the problem of nonlinear behaviour in the piezoelectric actuation systems. Voltage problem is always a critical issue in operating a distribution system. The uncertainties of load distribution and variation have introduced a great complexity to the task of maintaining system voltage within the permitted range. This paper describes a software tool developed for estimation of the field moisture content of subgrade materials. Subgrade behavior is directly related to its moisture content. Unfortunately, some approaches of estimating field moisture content are too complex to be used in routine design. In this paper, the authors attempt to provide an approach that is easy to use. A key challenge to top management is the alignment of IS and business plans for the purpose of producing an IT-based competitive advantage. This study uses a well known communication theory to provide new insight into the impact of CEO and CIO planning participation on IS and business alignment via the convergence of views between the CEO and CIO regarding the current and future strategic impact of IT on the firm’s success. Appropriate size and location of distributed generation (DG) play a significant role in minimizing power losses in distribution systems. This paper represents techniques to minimize power losses in a distribution feeder by optimizing DG model in terms of size, location and operating point of DG. This paper proposes and evaluates an adaptive technique and a variable structure control approach for piezoelectric actuation systems to track specified motion trajectories. The proposed control methodologies are formulated to accommodate unknown or uncertain system parameters, nonlinearities including the hysteresis effect, and external disturbances in the piezoelectric actuation systems without any form of feed-forward compensation. In this study, both control methodologies are demonstrated to possess a promising motion tracking ability experimentally. A homologous series of shape-persistent V-shaped molecules has been designed to form the biaxial nematic phase. Phenyleneethynylene moieties are attached to a bent fluorenone unit to create an apex angle of about 90°, which is determined from the single crystal structure. Two mesogens, one symmetric and another unsymmetric, have been synthesized by attaching a cyano group to one or both of the peripheral phenyl units, respectively. These groups introduce local dipoles essential for the formation of the nematic phases.
