System And Method For Sensing A Characteristic Of A Fluid And Related Apparatus, Frederick Payne Aug 2006

System And Method For Sensing A Characteristic Of A Fluid And Related Apparatus, Frederick Payne

Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering Faculty Patents

An apparatus for intended use in measuring, sensing, or detecting a characteristic of a fluid, such as a liquid food product, is disclosed. The apparatus includes a body having a pocket for positioning adjacent to the opening in a pipe or like structure for receiving a portion of a fluid therein. In one possible use, a first optical medium, such as an optical fiber, transmits light from a source toward a portion of the fluid flow entering the pocket. Light received by one or more optical mediums positioned in backscatter, sidescatter, or transmission configurations relative to the first optical medium …

Computational Fluid Dynamics (Cfd) Analysis Of Decomposition Reaction Inside The Solar Fluid Wall Reactor, Vijaykaartik Kumar Jan 2006

Computational Fluid Dynamics (Cfd) Analysis Of Decomposition Reaction Inside The Solar Fluid Wall Reactor, Vijaykaartik Kumar

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

A solar thermo-chemical reactor has been designed and modeled to study the flow of decomposition reactions. The reaction considered in this case is the thermal reduction of metal oxide, as part of a two-step water splitting cycle for hydrogen generation and methane decomposition, which directly generates hydrogen in a single step reaction. The reaction takes place at 2000 K to 2500 K using concentrated solar energy as the source. In this model, the reactor is comprised of two concentric cylinders, which are made of graphite. The input zinc oxide is assumed to be uniform in particle size during the simulation. …

Application Of Computational Fluid Dynamics For High Energy Efficiency Design With Human Comfort Of Cad-Vav And Ufad Systems, Bhanu Rekha Bandhakavi Jan 2006

Application Of Computational Fluid Dynamics For High Energy Efficiency Design With Human Comfort Of Cad-Vav And Ufad Systems, Bhanu Rekha Bandhakavi

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

This thesis deals with the numerical simulation of the ceiling air distribution (CAD) system and the Under Floor Air Distribution (UFAD) system based on the dimensions of BTLab at UNLV. Ceiling Air Distribution (CAD) with variable air volume (VAV) and Under Floor Air Distribution (UFAD) systems have been widely used in different countries. CAD-VAV and UFAD systems designs have been influenced by increasing emphasis on indoor air quality (IAQ), energy conservation, environmental effects, safety, and economics. So, 3-D Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis technique was applied to design high energy efficiency and human comfort CAD-VAV and UFAD systems. The goal …
