The Relationships Among Trauma, Self-Concept, Dissociation, Cluster B Personality Disorders And Adult Attachment Style In Incarcerated Women, Beatrice Narcisco

Individual, Family, and Community Education ETDs

During the last twenty-five years, the number of women who have entered and reentered the criminal justice system has steadily risen. Most of the arrests are made on drug-related charges. To develop a better understanding of women who are incarcerated, this study examined the relationships among trauma, self-concept, dissociation, Cluster B Personality Disorders and adult attachment styles in 77 women from the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Their ethnicity was reported as follows: N=43 Hispanic, N=17 White/Anglo, N=9 Native American, and N=8 Black/African American; their mean age was 34.7 and their mean educational level was 11.5. …

In addition, the thesis will propose new testing methods for electronically shuttered CCD imagers that are not well understood.

Hydraulic Modeling Study To Determine Diversion Structure Impacts - Rio Grande At Albuquerque, New Mexico -, Jungseok Ho Nov 2006

Hydraulic Modeling Study To Determine Diversion Structure Impacts - Rio Grande At Albuquerque, New Mexico -, Jungseok Ho

Civil Engineering ETDs

The primary objective of this study is to develop and use physical and numerical modeling techniques to predict the hydraulic impact on the Rio Grande induced by the Albuquerque diversion structure and its operation. A 1:24 scale distorted movable bed model, constructed and tested to investigate the hydraulic performance of the diversion structure, provided measurements for validating the numerical models developed in this study. Crushed coal was substituted for the prototype sediment particles and a 6.5 times steeper channel bed slope were employed to obtain sediment transport model similitude.

The diversion structure consists of an overshot gate system that can …

Variation And Change In Spanish Future Temporal Expression: Rates, Constraints, And Grammaticalization, Jessica Elana Aaron Nov 2006

Variation And Change In Spanish Future Temporal Expression: Rates, Constraints, And Grammaticalization, Jessica Elana Aaron

Spanish and Portuguese ETDs

This quantitative, diachronic study of variation between the Spanish Synthetic Future cantaré (Sf) and the Periphrastic Future voy a cantar (PF) tackles the development of these two expressions within and outside the realm of future temporal reference in Spanish since Old Spanish through the early 21st century. Working within the framework or grammaticization and variation theory, this study begins with a qualitative and quantitative form-based analysis of each form, based on over 5,500 tokens extracted from a 935.000-word written and oral corpus.

In the case of the SF, the relationship between SF occurrences in future temporal contexts and those in …

Current And Historical Aquatic Food Webs Of The Middle Rio Grande, Nm, Melanie S. Edwards Nov 2006

Current And Historical Aquatic Food Webs Of The Middle Rio Grande, Nm, Melanie S. Edwards

Biology ETDs

The Rio Grande has been identified as one of the most endangered rivers in the United States by American Rivers. Biologically, the consequences of the massive anthropogenic alterations of this river have been substantial. The overall aim of this study was to characterize the ecological implications of these alterations in the aquatic food web of the middle Rio Grande (MRG) of New Mexico. Our approach was to analyze the stable isotope composition of current food web components and of historical museum preserved fish specimens. After determining that we could use stable isotope analyses of historical museum preserved fish specimens (chapter …

A Cultural Landscape Report For The Univeristy Of New Mexico Central Campus, Will Moses

Architecture and Planning ETDs

From Introduction:

This is a cultural landscape report (CLR) of eight landscapes that form the core of the main campus of the University of New Mexico. A cultural landscape report is "the primary report that documents the history, significance, and treatment of a cultural landscape. A CLR evaluates the history and integrity of the landscape, including any changes to its geographical context, features, materials, and use." A cultural landscape is "a geographic area, including both cultural and natural resources, and the wildlife or domestic animals therein, associated with a historic event, activity, or person or exhibiting other cultural or aesthetic …

History And Timing Of Polyphase Proterozoic Deformation In The Manzano Thrust Belt, Central New Mexico, Amy Luther Aug 2006

History And Timing Of Polyphase Proterozoic Deformation In The Manzano Thrust Belt, Central New Mexico, Amy Luther

Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs

The Sandia-Manzano-Los Pinos Mountains, on the eastern flank of the Rio Grande Rift, provide spectacular exposures of the Proterozoic Manzano thrust belt. This region is an important place to better characterize polyphase deformation and magmatism related to the assembly of Laurentia, particular the 1.65-1.60 Ga Mazatzal orogeny and the later 1.4 Ga thermo-tectonic event. This study focuses on the Los Pinos Mountains, near the southern end of the Manzano thrust belt, an area that has been only weakly overprinted by a later phase of Mesoproterozoic tectonism and is therefore an ideal place to characterize Paleoproterozoic deformational events. Building on a …

Mid-Infrared Multiple Quantum Well Lasers Using Digitally-Grown Allnassb Barriers And Strained Inassb Wells, Leslie G. Vaughn

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs

Alxln(1-x)AsySb(1-y)quaternary alloys have been used in Type I midwave infrared (MWIR) laser structures as barrier materials with lnAs and InAsSb quantum wells. However, growth of these alJoys has limited the application because of a large miscibi lity gap. In this research, quaternary films with compositions well into the miscibility gap (0

Combining the quaternary bandgap equation with strain and quantum size effects. the wavelengths for strained lnAsSb wells in AllnAsSb quaternary barriers are predicted and compared to measured values generated from PL experiments. The reasonable agreement of these experimental results with the …

The Relationship Between Posttraumatic Growth And Substance Abuse In Homeless Women With Histories Of Traumatic Experience, Monica J. Stump Jul 2006

The Relationship Between Posttraumatic Growth And Substance Abuse In Homeless Women With Histories Of Traumatic Experience, Monica J. Stump

Psychology ETDs

The phenomenon of posttraumatic growth (PTG) may be particularly relevant for homeless women, who have higher levels of trauma exposure than the general population. However, homeless women also have higher rates of substance use, which some research has linked with less PTG. The present study examined the relationship between PTG and substance use in homeless women. lt was hypothesized that substance abuse would be associated with less PTG, more avoidant coping, and more Posttraumatic Stress Disorder symptomatology. It was further predicted that PTG would be unrelated to psychological distress. Participants were 50 homeless women with histories of trauma who were …

Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs

The nature and timing of deposition and deformation of Proterozoic siliciclastic metasedimentary cover sequences in the southwestern U.S is important for understanding Paleoproterozoic and Mesoproterozoic tectonism in the context of crustal accretionary episodes. These thick, ultramature siliciclastic successions are important orogenic markers that record regional sedimentation events that occurred between orogenic pulses. Their tectonic connections to these orogenic events remains an important issue. New geologic mapping and structural analysis of the siliciclastic Uncopmpaghre Group and the Vallecito Conglomerate in the Needle Mountains, southwestern Colorado, provide insight into the depositional and deformational history of one of the best exposed of these …

Arthur Shilling: Anishinaabemowin-MazinibiiʼIgewinini, Suzanne Rita Mcleod

Art & Art History ETDs

Arthur Shilling, Anishinaabe artist from Mnjikaning First Nation in southern Ontario, was one of the first generation, contemporary Native painters who emerged in the early years in the formation of a "Canadian Native" art. Born in 1941, Shilling was, first, an artist who wrestled with the creation of a dignified expression of a people struggling to place themselves within the general population, and second, a man whose principles demanded the preservation of cultural and personal integrity. Shilling's "people-portraits" transcended the narrow definitions of "Native" or "Indian" art, with his artistry too close to Western styles to be comfortably catalogued as …
