The Growth Of Federal Authority, 1929-40, Terry Irving
Terence H Irving, Dr (Terry)
This chapter covers the period of economic crisis in which Labor returns to government at the national level, splits and loses office, and rebuilds its strength in a long process of asserting the authority of the Federal Parliamentary Party against the state branches and the factions they often spawned. It begins with Scullin's victory and ends with the new leader, Curtin, poised to make Labor the party of government in another moment of national crisis.

Blazing Trails In A New Kentucky Wilderness: Early Kentucky Case Law Digests, Kurt Metzmeier
Kurt X. Metzmeier
The three stages of the history of case law digest publishing in Kentucky are discussed: the early period where digests were the product of individualistic lawyer-scholars; a middle period where state and regional legal publishers began to professionalize digest making; and the final commercial triumph of West’s American Digest System. In 1999 Carnegie Mellon University Libraries, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, and the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon received funding from IMLS to develop, document and disseminate prototypes for a new form of collaboration between libraries, museums, and other collection holders. The goal of the project was to produce more effective educational outreach to the public in the form of SmartWeb exhibits designed to deliver information online to a diverse user community. This presentation will provide an overview of project goals and discuss the importance of the project in making quality information available to users. In addition, …
As Long As You Think You're White..., Shawna Hanel
As Long As You Think You're White..., Shawna Hanel
Shawna Hanel
This body of work encourages white people to recognize that their histories, perspectives, and experiences are not those of humanity, but rather those of white humanity; while simultaneously exposing the falsity of inherent whiteness. In other words, the exhibit and web site provide a space for white people to perceive their whiteness in the contexts of socialization, material culture, and economic location; and then to begin to disavow it within their attitudes, behaviors, and identities. Recognizing and disavowing whiteness concurrently may appear contradictory. Both are strategies necessary for the creation of white identities capable of acknowledging the gross historical injustices …

Estimation Of Error In Large Area Underwater Photomosaics Using Vehicle Navigation Data, C. Roman, H. Singh
Estimation Of Error In Large Area Underwater Photomosaics Using Vehicle Navigation Data, C. Roman, H. Singh
Christopher N. Roman
Creating geometrically accurate photomosaics of underwater sites using images collected from an AUV or ROV is a difficult task due to dimensional errors which grow as a function of 3D image distortion and the mosaicking process. Although photomosiacs are accurate locally their utility for accurately representing a large survey area is jeopardized by this error growth. Evaluating the error in a mosaic is the first step in creating globally accurate photomosaics of an unstructured environment with bounded error. Using vehicle navigation data and sensor offsets it is possible to estimate the error present in large area photomosaics independent of the …
