"One To Hear Me" An Exegetical Analysis Of Job 31:1-7,35-37 Which Explores The Presence Of God In The Context Of Human Suffering, Christopher Bramich `
Master of Sacred Theology Seminar Papers
This study will provide the reader with an exegetical analysis of Job 31: 1-7 and 35-37which explores the presence of God in the context of human suffering. Passages found elsewhere in Job will be connected to chapter 31 to elucidate the book's storyline and major themes. Lastly, a discussion of Job's theological relevance will consider the book's significance in the wider framework of the Old and New Testaments.

Reconsidering The Platonic Cleitophon, Kyriakos N. Demetriou
Reconsidering The Platonic Cleitophon, Kyriakos N. Demetriou
Kyriakos N. Demetriou
This article unravels the riddle of the Platonic "Cleitophon" through an examination of S.R. Slings' "Plato, Clitophon" (Cambridge University Press, 1999). It examines the history of the reception of this dialogue from the 19th century to present day Platonic analytic and interpretative approaches.

Qualitative Modeling For Magnetization Curve, Pei-Hwa Huang, Yu-Shuo Chang
Qualitative Modeling For Magnetization Curve, Pei-Hwa Huang, Yu-Shuo Chang
Journal of Marine Science and Technology
This paper studies the derivation of a qualitative description for the magnetization curve of saturable magnetic materials. From a set of numerical input-output data, a fuzzy model, which is a collection of fuzzy IF-THEN rules for describing the studied system, is first constructed for the magnetization curve. A procedure consisting of a fuzzy clustering method and a rule processing algorithm is then employed for processing the constructed fuzzy modeling rules to extract the qualitative properties of the curve. The proposed approach is objective in that it can yield the system qualitative features without domain experts’ knowledge. An example is demonstrated …

Investigating Variation Among Arikara Crania Using Geometric Morphometry, Ashley H. Mckeown
Investigating Variation Among Arikara Crania Using Geometric Morphometry, Ashley H. Mckeown
Doctoral Dissertations
Geometric morphometry has seen minimal application in studies of biological variability among subpopulations of humans. However, as landmark coordinates are highly effective for capturing information regarding size and shape variation, the tools of geometric morphometry are appropriate for investigating such questions. This research utilizes landmark coordinate data to quantify morphological variation among Arikara crania to evaluate the biological relationships between skeletal samples from late prehistoric, protohistoric and historic sites. These samples are derived from well documented archaeological contexts, and the presence of biological variability among them has been reported in previous studies. These factors make these samples appropriate for assessing …
Cognitive Processes As Predictors Of Reading Success, Maripat Mullaly Gettelfinger
Cognitive Processes As Predictors Of Reading Success, Maripat Mullaly Gettelfinger
Doctoral Dissertations
One hundred and five elementary and middle school students from a rural East Tennessee school district were evaluated using a new test of dyslexia, the Test of Dyslexia and Dysgraphia (TODD; McCallum & Bell, 1999). The TODD includes cognitive measures presumed to underlie reading. Also, reading achievement was assessed using the TODD, and for 73 of the students, by an end-of-year group administered test, the Terra Nova.
When cognitive variables were entered into Multiple Regression Analyses using reading achievement scores as criteria, Phonological Awareness was the strongest predictor of all criterion measures after extracting the variance accounted for by age. …
Differences In Language Learning Strategies Between Male And Female, And Also Between Asian And Latino Esl Students, Dai Osanai
Doctoral Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to investigate whether or not differences exist between female and male and also between Latino and Asian Students in the use of languages learning strategies by administering self-reported questionnaires to foreign students learning English in American universities. The data for this research study were provided by 147 foreign students at five mid- to large-sized universities in the Southeastern United States. The primary questionnaire, consisting of 50 closed-ended questions for this research study, was entitled "Strategy Inventory for Language Learning, (SILL)." A background questionnaire consisting of five open-ended and eight closed-ended questions, developed by the …

Foucault And Gadamer: Like Apples And Oranges Passing In The Night, Gary Wickham
Foucault And Gadamer: Like Apples And Oranges Passing In The Night, Gary Wickham
Chicago-Kent Law Review
This Article explores some points of connection between Michel Foucault's "governmentality" approach and Hans-Georg Gadamer's hermeneutics and concludes that Gadamer's project does not easily mesh with the Foucaultian critique. Instead, this Article argues that Foucault's reading of Heidegger diverges significantly from Gadamer's, and that an attempt to link the philosophers through their common heritage is unavailing. In conclusion, this Article suggests that the divide between hermeneutics and critical theory (in a Foucaultian sense) cannot be bridged easily, despite the few vague family resemblances evident in the literature.
The Constitution Of Bilingual/Esl Education As A Disciplinary Practice: Genealogical Explorations, Jaime Grinberg, Elizabeth R. Saavedra
The Constitution Of Bilingual/Esl Education As A Disciplinary Practice: Genealogical Explorations, Jaime Grinberg, Elizabeth R. Saavedra
Department of Educational Foundations Scholarship and Creative Works
This article provides a cultural and political critique of the constitution of bilingual/English-as-a-second-language (ESL) education as a disciplinary practice in the case of New Mexico. Using genealogy and postcolonial, post-structural, and critical frameworks, this article claims that the directions advanced by the Chicano/Chicana movement were lost. Instead, what emerged was a field that nurtured a mix of symbolic colonization and docilization through the construction of a settlement that controls thought and behavior, perpetuating misrecognition in a Bourdieuian sense. Illusion, collusion, and delusion have enabled the dominance of psycholinguistic approaches. Problematizing the constitution of bilingual/ESL education within a cultural and political …

Possible Levels Of Animal Consciousness With Reference To Grey Parrots (Psittacus Erithacus), Irene M. Pepperberg, Spencer K. Lynn
Possible Levels Of Animal Consciousness With Reference To Grey Parrots (Psittacus Erithacus), Irene M. Pepperberg, Spencer K. Lynn
Sentience Collection
Researchers often study nonhuman abilities by assuming their subjects form representations about perceived stimuli and then process such information; why then would consciousness be required, and, if required, at what level? Arguments about nonhuman consciousness range from claims of levels comparable to humans to refutation of any need to study such phenomena. We suggest that (a) species exhibit different levels attuned to their ecological niches, and (b) animals, within their maximum possible level, exhibit different extents of awareness appropriate to particular situations, much like humans (presumably conscious) who often act without conscious awareness of factors controlling their behavior. We propose …
