Zakat Dan Pola Konsumsi Yang Islami, Mulya E Siregar
Zakat Dan Pola Konsumsi Yang Islami, Mulya E Siregar
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking

The Selected Language Styles Of African Americans In An Urban Environment, Danielle R. England
The Selected Language Styles Of African Americans In An Urban Environment, Danielle R. England
McCabe Thesis Collection
The overall scope of this research is to define and explain the different styles of African American English. What are they and how do they affect the American society? The means by which many African Americans communicate is different from what American deems as standard American English (SAE). To this date, the voice of Black America has been categorizes as Black Dialect, African American Vernacular English, and Black English. Only until recently has the Black voice been regarded as Ebonics. Where did these language styles originate and why do we continue to speak it? Of course, there is nothing wrong …
European Integration And The Expansion Of The European Union: Identity Formation In Europe, Aaron P. Boesenecker
European Integration And The Expansion Of The European Union: Identity Formation In Europe, Aaron P. Boesenecker
Honors Theses
The states of Europe and the European Union are facing one of the greatest challenges since the founding of the European Community in the 1950s. The collapse of the Soviet Union and end of the Cold War have served to strengthen the position of the European Union as a guarantor of democracy, peace, and fundamental human rights in Europe. However, crises such as the Balkan conflicts of recent years have also exposed inherent weaknesses in the Union's ability to respond to the changing international environment. As the Amsterdam Treaty entered into effect on 1 May 1999, the EU marked a …

Doctoral Dissertations
The factors that contribute to culture shock among international students who study abroad have been researched continuously since 1960. However, the findings remain controversial.
The purpose of this study was to identify, through survey research methodology, what demographic factors, including age, gender, marital status, nationality, length of stay in the U.S., previous travel experience in other countries, and number of American friends, were related to culture shock linguistically, socially, and psychologically among ESL students.
Subjects participating in this study were 66 ESL students who were native speakers of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish at the English Language Institute at The …

Working Memory And Writing : A Comparison Of Two Types Of Dynamic Assessment Of Working Memory And The Relationship To Writing Ability Of Heterogeneously Grouped Seventh Grade Students, Sandra Regina Machleit
Doctoral Dissertations
This study investigated the relationship of working memory under two types of dynamic assessment methods to the writing abilities of middle school-aged students. The Testof Written Language-Third Edition, Forms A and B (TOWL-3)was administered to heterogeneously grouped, seventh-grade students as pre-and post-test measures of writing. TheSwanson's Cognitive Processing Test (S-CPT) was administered as an intervening measure of working memory using two types of dynamic assessment approaches, graduated prompting (GP)and mediated learning experience (MLE).Working memory is defined as the mechanism by which individuals store and retrieve information needed to perform a particular task and is highly correlated with achievement. Moreover, working memory …
Removal Period Cherokee Households In Southwestern North Carolina: Material Perspectives On Ethnicity And Cultural Differentiation, Brett High Riggs
Removal Period Cherokee Households In Southwestern North Carolina: Material Perspectives On Ethnicity And Cultural Differentiation, Brett High Riggs
Doctoral Dissertations
Nineteenth century accounts of Cherokee Indian society consistently refer to the existence of two classes among the Cherokees: the acculturated "mixed blood[s], who speak English and are considered the intelligent and wealthy class" and the culturally conservative fullbloods, whom white observers denigrated as "backward," "indolent," and "ignorant" pagans. This perceived dichotomy reflected the poles of a socioeconomic and cultural continuum that developed as a result of the differential Westernization of Cherokee individuals and households during the post-Revolutionary War era. As these socioeconomic classes diverged, they developed as the primary axis of competition and conflict within Cherokee society. Because these groups …

A Post Hoc Study Of Young Motherhood, Diane Long Joines
A Post Hoc Study Of Young Motherhood, Diane Long Joines
Doctoral Dissertations
The purpose of this study was a phenomenological description of the experience of young women who became teenage mothers and went on to complete their high school education. Using the dialogic interview, six women were asked to talk about the experience of being pregnant and being a mother while they were in school. Thenarratives, though different in content, were rich in detail and depth and revealed a structure consistent across all interviews. The method of analysis in phenomenological studies is the hermeneutic circle. In This tradition, data was analyzed with my major professor, an interpretive group, and a fellow group member. …
The Beauties And Beasts Of Nineteenth-Century French Fiction, Patricia Ann Mccoy
The Beauties And Beasts Of Nineteenth-Century French Fiction, Patricia Ann Mccoy
Doctoral Dissertations
For a number of years prior to commencing the research for this dissertation, the author of this study worked with ethnographic appropriations of popular motifs from fairy tales and myths. It was here that she first discovered the unique renderings of certain themes from one generation to the other and from one century into another. The investigation described in the pages that follow are but one facet of the author's interest in textual poachings, reader response, and horizons of expectation in literature, film, theater, and the fine arts applied to certain works of nineteenth-century French fiction. In this study of "The …

Pedagogy And Power Relations In English Studies ; Insights From Literary And Rhetorical Theory, Jeffrey Walter Walkington
Pedagogy And Power Relations In English Studies ; Insights From Literary And Rhetorical Theory, Jeffrey Walter Walkington
Doctoral Dissertations
In this dissertation, I examine, against a history of current literature and composition teaching, the question of teacher authority versus student freedom in four different sites: the writing conference, especially as it takes place in writing centers; the“open” class discussion, particularly the issue of whether it encourages dissent or defusesit; non authoritarian strategies such as teaching in a circle and all they signify about classroom hierarchies; and the use of networked computers in the reading and writing course, which has been both endorsed and excoriated by leaders in the discipline.Chapter two draws heavily on recent social constructionist theories of composition …
