The Department of Energy (Department) is responsible for protecting human health and the environment by providing an effective and efficient system that treats, stores, and disposes of Departmental waste. The Department disposes of some of its waste at Envirocare of Utah, Inc., (Envirocare) a commercial treatment and disposal facility in Clive, Utah. The audit objective was to determine whether the Department and its contractors were using the most favorable rates available for the disposal of waste at Envirocare.

Organizational Culture In The Service Industries : Developing A Diagnostic Tool, Karen S. Sanborn

Doctoral Dissertations

Examining customer service systems and values can be helpful in promoting service quality culture. By comparing the perceptions of different levels of organizations, companies can determine if their corporate cultures are filtering to all levels. Continual evaluation can predict cultural trends and allow for corrective action. To assist in the examination, a model of corporate culture was discussed. Two service organizations participated in the development of a tool to examine customer service issues within culture.

The Effect Of Managers' Clarification Of Business Linkage Of Training On Trainees' Transfer Of Training, Elizabeth J. Benanzer

Dissertations

This study investigated the hypotheses that if managers were engaged in specific activities aimed at increasing their understanding of the linkage of employee training to business goals, then they would in turn create a more positive transfer environment, resulting in greater transfer of training received by their employees. Some managers of trainees participated in a workshop in which they used an “impact mapping” procedure to clearly explain the relationship between training of their employees and strategic goals of the business; another group of managers did not receive this impact mapping training. Then, all managers’ employees participated in a supervisory training …

"Cinderella" Services In The Nhs Internal Market:Does Contracting Make A Difference?, David Hughes, Siobhan Mcclelland, Lesley Griffiths Oct 1997

"Cinderella" Services In The Nhs Internal Market:Does Contracting Make A Difference?, David Hughes, Siobhan Mcclelland, Lesley Griffiths

Dalhousie Law Journal

This paper examines the impact of the NHS internal market reforms on an aspect of equity in the British system that features little in recent policy commentary: the allocation of resources between acute services for the entire population and nonacute services for the elderly, the mentally ill, and the disabled (the so-called "Cinderella" services). The authors' research on health planning and contracting in the NHS in Wales suggests that patterns of services have remained largely unchanged, and that pressures in the reformed system, such as the Patient's Charter initiative, prevent any major reallocation of resources away from the acute sector. …

Organizational And Developmental Dynamics Of Project Review Teams In Technology Environment, Anthony D. Wilbon

This paper is the result of a week long participant observation of a technical project review team within a large organization. A detailed log was maintained during the study and the results were analyzed to understand the relationship of the observations to prior research in organizational dynamics. Some of the existing literature implies that the current research on organizational development may be applicable to entities of various sizes. In some cases the observations from this research fell within the framework of the existing theories. The findings reveal that the most important factor to consider with respect to downsizing is whether there are good human resource management practices in place long before the downsizing process is to occur.

The Relationship Between Creativity And Leadership Traits Among Dietetic Professionals, Theresa Marie Cornelius Aug 1997

The Relationship Between Creativity And Leadership Traits Among Dietetic Professionals, Theresa Marie Cornelius

Masters Theses

The health care system is rapidly changing. In order to survive as a profession, dietetic professionals need to know about health care innovations and adapt to them. Leadership theories, such as transformational leadership may facilitate this adaptation. Transformational leaders are persuasive, creative, intuitive and have the ability to enhance these skills in others. This type of leadership facilitates organizational change and may be enhanced by creativity. Zemel and colleagues found that in Public Health Nutritionists the performance of both the innovator and broker roles were performed significantly less often than other leadership roles. These roles are paramount to dietetic professionals …
